OK. GOP recommends gun reporting

In the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, Gov. Mary Fallin (R) appointed a task force headed by the Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb to make recommendations about how to increase school security. The task force has made its recommendations, among which is a provision to mandate the reporting of any guns found on school property to law enforcement.

Presumably, that would include rifles and shotguns legally carried in vehicles and side arms legally carried by licensed individuals, including teachers and staff, even when left in the car. Reporting will necessarily include creating a database which will identify the person and the firearm serial number.

"...The other recommendations call for mandating school intruder drills at public schools along with fire and tornado drills; establishing a school security tip phone line to report suspicious activity; and requiring that any firearm discovered on a school’s grounds be reported to law enforcement..."

I thought the GOP was dead set against any new gun control measures, and certainly against the reporting of citizens who can legally carry guns.

What's the deal here? "Gun control" isn't really that bad an idea, so long as you think it's for a good cause?
