Arctic minimum ice extent in the 1950s was around 4.25 million square miles. The minimum extent in 2012 was 1.32 million square miles, with much, much less multi-year thick ice so the ice volume has shrunk enormously too. Which makes the denier cultists' fraudulent claims that the Arctic ice is 'recovering' incredibly ridiculous and insane.
