Its hard to compare because they are so different.
But Carter got his butt kicked by the Soviets in Afghanistan, leading to our still beign involved in that hell hole. His economic policies were horrible. His energy policies were horrible. He is one of the few presidents voted out of office.
Obama is getting his butt kicked by al Qaeda, the Russians, the Chinese, the Iranians, and anyone else to whom he has opened his hand in friendship. He is pissing off the British, the French, the Poles, the Czechs, and just about anyone else who was on our side. He has let the leftists in Congress dictate his bills and has never taken responsibility or the lead on any of it, despite claiming to.
He is mendacious, arrogant, and doesnt know what he doesnt know. And his lack of experience shows every single day. He has surrounded himself with yes-men.
While I agree it is hard to compare one year in a presidency to 4 years, Obama is well on track to be the worst president ever. And that includes Harding.

This is pretty much on the mark for comparisons, ahead of its time:

Barack Obama and The Parallel to Jimmy Carter | Chicago Daily Observer

Barack Obama and The Parallel to Jimmy Carter
JIM MERRINER 24 MARCH 2009

Throughout the presidential campaign until now, well into President Obama’s first 100 days, I have been waiting for some pundit to explain how Obama is like Jimmy Carter. Nobody has, so I guess the job falls to me.

As political editor of the Atlanta Constitution, I covered Carter as governor of Georgia and as president. He was a calculating, dissembling politician who pretended to be something else.

As a freelance writer, I covered Obama as a U.S. senator and presidential candidate. He was a calculating, dissembling politician who pretended to be something else.

Both men seemed to have the mean streak that lies, however well hidden, in the spleen of every great leader. It’s forgotten now, but the governor that Carter replaced was the ax-handle-brandishing, red-faced segregationist fool, Lester Maddox. On his first week on the job, Carter drove to the Georgia Capitol with his top adviser. The adviser said he hated how they would spend the day firing all the Maddox holdovers in state government, throwing them out of work with families to support and all. Carter bared his teeth and said, “I can’t wait.”

After he was elected to the U.S. Senate, Obama tried to put his pal Will Burns in his old Illinois Senate seat. The local Democratic committeemen, who did not especially like Obama, balked and named Sen. Kwame Raoul instead. Afterward, Obama could hardly bring himself to speak civilly to Raoul.

Both men ran against the evil Washington establishment. Once elected, Carter filled his cabinet will luminaries of that establishment, guys like Cyrus Vance at State.

Once elected, Obama filled his cabinet with luminaries of that establishment, gals like Hillary Clinton at State.

...

Carter is the reason we have problems today in the Mid East.

Obama is the reason why we still will have problems in the Mid East for years to come.

Reagan and both Bushes are by far the worst. Bush Sr. coined the term Voo Doo Economics for Reagan's trickle down theory, yet they all three used it.

They can't all be the worst....you gotta pick one.

Wonder if you were even having to make a living during any of their administrations.

I was....Carter was the worst. Obama has shown the potential to be even worse.

The two best presidents in the last 40 years were Reagan and Clinton. Clinton could have been better if he had just kept his dick in his pants.

Not too sure why you are comparing him to Carter. The worst president in my life time (born during LBJ) is Bush II by quite a considerable margin...followed by Raygun....

Should have tried living here during the carter years Grump. It wan't a very comfortable time. A lot more discomfort than under Reagan, and Bush, and a lot more expensive, I might add.

"Some even believe we (the Rockefeller family) are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure---one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.".

you bring up a good point.

Yes, he is. I used to think that Jimmy Carter was the worst President that the US has ever had but Owe Bama has him beat hands down.
Obama became the worst President since Carter about 2 seconds after Odumba screwed up his own presidential Oath of Office, which can now be called the Oaf of Office.

I voted "no" but it's really more of a "not yet". Carter got the job with the country in a bad spot and made things much worse and fast. Yeah, Obama's on the same road (including a freckless foreign policy of looming disasters) but "the One" has not been on the road long enough jut yet.

Let's not forget the time left can go in many directions. America's lurch to the center-right, the coming Democrat loses and the Tea Party type atmosphere could very well save President Obama by forcing him at least to the center-left. I still see him as a one term wonder (small shot at two but not consecutive) but we may yet be saved a Carteresq Big Fail.

/two cents
As what benefited Clinton. The one thing Clinton had going for him was that he was likable. Obama, on the other hand, is hated because he is an unashamed communist and thug from Chicago. The political ads against him in 2012 are already writing themselves.

Too early to make the comparisons, IMHO.

After the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, Carter boldly told them that we weren't going to play in their Olympics. The Soviets responded with more aggression and expansion. This was perhaps Carter's greatest failure: being more decisive and effective against the Soviets.

To Carter's credit, he did successfully bring the Israelis and Egyptians together at the Camp David Accords; he returned the Panama Canal back to the country of Panama although at the time that may not have been the best time for that move---this one can be debated endlessly; and he began normalizing US relations with China.

Perhaps the most unfair thing to happen to Carter was the failure of the rescue attempt. Carter did the right thing by sending in the military; but it wasn't his fault that the mission had failed. He did the right thing by accepting full responsibility.

Obama, on the other hand, went around the world apologizing that the United States went after terrorists and killed them, slapped them around or otherwise hurt their feelings and sense of self-esteem. Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize just for being elected. Didn't do a goddamned thing but still won the Peace Prize just for breathing air. Obama essentially dipped government fingers in the auto industry, banking and is now trying to get a hold of the health care profession. His socialist tendencies are becoming more blatant. Whenever the going gets tough, he immediately finds a way to blame the Bush administration. Carter, at least, took it like a man and accepted full responsibility for his actions/inactions. While Carter speaks out of line as a former President, he never did so while he was President. Obama jumps the gun when a close personal friend has a confrontation with law enforcement and tries to smooth things over with a media-hyped Beer Summit. Obama promised us change. We got what we asked for. Under the Bush, unemployment peaked at roughly 8%, and under Obama it's been over 10% for several months. Now THAT'S change you can believe in!

Carter Dem.....Bush Jr. Repub......Obama still has 3 years to either win the worst crown or become a leader and a President......hopefully he will become the latter......
