Obama to order new Icebreaker ships for Arctic!!

Read the several previous threads on this.

Good work, Mr. President. If left to the Repubs, Russia would own us.

I liked how he tried to sell solar to that town that gets like five hours of sunlight a day LOL
Really? Why don't you just give us the facts on the amount of sunlight that town gets at various times of the year. And the cost of fuel for generators for that town. Come on, Miss Sassy Lass, show us why that is foolish.

Google it yourself, asshole. You leftists get your little panties in a wad every tome someone makes fun of your Big Ears. Grow the hell up, it's childish

What is childish is that you cannot accept that a black liberal man is in the White House. And so you have to find reason to ridicule everything that the man says. Ah well, no one will remember who the hell you are, but President Obama will be remembered as the President that pulled us out of the Republican's attempt to put us into the Second Great Republican Depression.

LOL.....the next meltdown is going to be epic my friend. People who see this stuff as a partisan thing are just hopelessly duped indeed, as I was for many decades.

He makes it easy to ridicule him, freaking big eared disaster

Probably DO need another Ice Breaker. The sea ice isn't gonna stop forming in the wintertime. Shouldn't cost 1/3 of what's been tossed out though.

And our problems with Russia and China are larger than fighting over a void and inhabitable open ocean..
Our moron in charge told the Coast Guard cadets that Global Warning was their most important mission. Not gonna SHOOT at Russia or China from an icebreaker. But you could send a message to them by putting up 3 masts and make it a "green sailing vessel"....

:2up:

You really are a fucking moron... The ANGLE OF INCIDENCE from the sun will not allow PV panels to operate much above 10% of rated capacity.. The sun must travel through 2-3 times more atmosphere during 90% of the year and the rest of the time they get NO SUN! PV arrays do not work up there!

The Stupid, It burns!

No, from experience, they (solar photovoltaic panels) DO work "up there".

True, not nearly as well as at lower latitudes. Correct, for the additional atmosphere to penetrate. Also true due to limited (if any) hours of sunshine in winter.

However, WHEN COST IS NO OBJECT, the limited amount of electricity they produce does displace some quantity of expensive diesel fuel. But they don't displace the diesel generators which are required for the times when the sun don't shine.

You see as much solar on public buildings in the far north as you do because of government subsidies. On their own? Not economical.

Exception: Remote sites where it's impractical to haul fuel and access is limited to a few weeks a year. Requires vast amounts or battery storage but for things like radio repeaters very practical. Much more practical than wind machines that shed blades like snakes shed their skin.

From a practical, everyday person stand point, they are worthless... And that was my point. One of my past jobs was setting up and operating/maintaining remote site PV and wind units for repeaters and fiber optic ground stations.. If you got lots of money you could make it work but the average person doesn't have the money or time to set up one to care for thier needs up there..

You really do have to gimball and servo them to produce any reasonable fraction of capacity over the useful season. Radio repeaters and field telemetry can sleep in between traffic and be made very efficient. But it's hard to squeeze enough out for business or homes when the sun doesn't climb above 30 degs..

Anything above 60 Deg Lat is pretty much a NO GO for PV array's. The number of batteries (which need about triple what a mid latitude station would use) necessary would require huge arrays to charge in a very short time and the cold would destroy those batteries in short order. There is no practical use for the average home owner at that Latitude. Obama and his envirowacko advisers are forgone idiots of major proportions and those who parrot thier crap are whole lot stupider..
