Obama says "We have Israel's back" during radio address

Indeed. He's doing it for no other purpose but to get back Jewish votes he's lost.

All political...

No he's doing it as an attempt to delay a strike by Israel on Iran. I predicted this and Netanyahu is not going to fall for this. Israel's survival is at stake here

Yes - Obama does not want Israel to strike until after the election.

Netanyahu may also be concerned about the bunker busters ability to penetrate one or two Iran's Key Nuclear Facilities, because Obama has already sent Israel 55 Bunker Buster Bombs back in 2009.

Now: Israel reports improved bunker-busters could destroy nuke sites on first strike

Umm... No Bush sent Israel those bunker busters, they were approved under Bush not Obama:eusa_eh:

Great Britain and France and Germany and most all our allies have self interests that verge from our common interests. History is full of examples of the USA and others spying on allies.
While spying on friendly nations, via such means as extra-casual observations by diplomatic personnel, superficial scrutiny of various business activities, etc. and compiling and analyzing what is gathered is a routine practice by the U.S. as well as all other developed nations, I did not refer to the Pollard Affair as spying but rather as the most egregious example of espionage in our history. And in case you don't know the difference between the two activities the following analogy will clarify it for you.

Spying is furtively peering through your blinds to observe your neighbor's comings and goings. Espionage is picking your neighbors' lock when they are away, rifling through their belongings and stealing items of interest to you. And while Israel does indeed spy on us quite routinely, the Pollard espionage operation was something that friendly nations simply do not do to one another and could be considered an act of war. Yet Israel to this day celebrates Jonathan Pollard as a national hero and persistently asks that he be pardoned and allowed to emigrate to Israel.

The "unique relationship" the USA has with Israel is well documented and commented upon. Israel itself admits to this. We have Israel's back.

The United States needs Israel in a few ways.

my opinion:
One way that puzzles many people is our need to stand by her because of how we view ourselves morally and ethically. Our personal relationship(s) with Israel (if personal relationships can exist between peoples of states) goes to the very heart of America's identity. The USA is where many Jews in exile fled for safety. It is also a place where Jews were allowed to excel over time and to gain access power and influence.

[...]
I respectfully suggest that your amorous disposition toward Jews and Israel is not common to non-Jews. And so there is no misunderstanding I am not suggesting that all gentiles are anti-Semitic but rather are not generally pro-Semitic (if you can accept such a stunning revelation).

I said nothing about Semites or Semitic peoples. What I say is 'we are all Jews' in the same way that the Danes were all Jews. Identification. It's about symbolism, mythology, the psyche, identity...:eusa_angel:

What the Pollard affair represents is business as usual. stop sounding ignorant and hysterical?

I'm not conservative enough to do so. Why do you ask?

In this you are trying to say what Israel did to the U.S. via the Jonathan Pollard operation was an ordinary act of spying rather than the most sensational and the most damaging act of betrayal by a supposedly friendly nation in modern history. But while you are obviously capable of pulling the wool over your own eyes by weaving a lot of rhetorical and fanciful nonsense I doubt that you get over on any reasonably well-informed individuals.

For your information what Jonathan Pollard did to the U.S. is on a par with the damage caused by Julius and Ethel Rosenberg.

Obama is treading a fine political line.
While the Jewish political lobby in America and Israel might be screaming out for Iranian blood, the Jewish communities in America and Israel are divided at best.

Further, Israel is losing the support of the American Jewish community so it has to hurry to get the US to do it's bidding before public sentiment and consequently political compliance is lost.

Wow that’s impressive how someone from New Zealand as such insight as to where the American Jewish community is…. Crazy.:cuckoo: Where do these people come from?

Netanyahu may also be concerned about the bunker busters ability to penetrate one or two Iran's Key Nuclear Facilities, because Obama has already sent Israel 55 Bunker Buster Bombs back in 2009.

Now: Israel reports improved bunker-busters could destroy nuke sites on first strike

Iran’s underground nuclear sites not immune to U.S. bunker-busters
“Hardened facilities require multiple sorties,” said a former senior intelligence official who has studied the formerly secret Fordow site and who agreed to discuss sensitive details of U.S. strike capabilities on the condition of anonymity. “The question is, how many turns do you get at the apple?”

U.S. confidence has been reinforced by training exercises in which bombers assaulted similar targets in deeply buried bunkers and mountain tunnels, the officials and experts said.

U.S. officials have raised the necessity of multiple strikes as they warn Israel against a unilateral attack on Iran’s nuclear installations, the officials said. While Israel is capable of launching its own bunker-buster bombs against Fordow, it lacks the United States’ more advanced munitions and the ability to wage a bombing campaign over days and weeks, American officials and analysts said.

The U.S.-Israeli rift over the urgency of stopping Iran’s nuclear progress stems in part from the belief among some Israeli officials that their window for successfully attacking Iran’s nuclear installations is rapidly closing as Tehran moves key assets into bunkers. Barak, in a speech this month, spoke of Iran’s progress in creating a “zone of immunity” for its nuclear program.

The US has munitions that aren't shared with Israel ? I find that hard to believe.

Another key phrase is "ability to wage a bombing campaign over days and weeks". These bunkers are so far down that it will take a weeks worth of bombing to destroy them. We will have to destroy their air defense in order to do this. Israel may not be able to sustain such a large military campaign & defend their own country from the inevitable attacks while they utilize so much of their military attacking Iran & destroying those nuclear bunkers.

I assume the Israeli bunker attacks will be carried out from inside the bunkers.

hearing Obama restating US position on Israel is great. Obama cares deeply about relationship with Israel.

:eusa_whistle:

LIVE coverage: President Obama's news conference
Broadcast: Minnesota Public Radio News Presents, 03/06/2012, 12:00 p.m.

The President is expected to announce a housing program and answer questions from reporters about a wide range of issues, including Israel, Syria, Iran, the economy and the presidential campaign.

Obama stood up for Israel at the UN when the US was the ONLY country that did.

Funny, right wingers care more for Israel and Iraq than they do for Americans.
