President Obama has decided to hire illegal aliens to patrol the border with Mexico. He thinks this is a job that Americans simply won't do, so he wants to hire illegal aliens to get the job done. Plus he plans on paying them under the table so that they don't have to claim income and pay taxes and he can pay them less/hour.

He thinks they will be very good border patrol agents because they know all the routes into the states. He is certain that if enough are hired and if he can get approval from Congress to spend a measley $2 trillion on the project that our borders will be secure and the flow of illegal aliens into America will be halted within a matter of hours.

Duh.....maybe the moon fairies will come down and secure the border so we don't have to run it like any other government operation. Aside from that, it's the governments job to do. They aren't efficient but if you want the border secure, that's who does it. I'm all for making the government more efficient but that has exactly squat to do with whos job it is, efficient or not....genius.

If any material progress can be made to legalize most of the primary drugs, I would bet a lot of things would change for the better in America.

There will be unintended consequences of course that need to be factored in and planned for. One from my experience in Switzerland is posted in the string on drug testing. People high and/or incapicated will need to be treated like DUIs, etc.

For what it is worth, I have brought this up in times past and have incurred the wrath of folks with strong religious beliefs. This may happen again here, but what I concluded from those experiences was that the objection was not so much religious as concerns about future generations of children. This is understandable and has to be addressed as part of any thoughtful process.

The reason is that when we generally discuss drug legalization as well as several other social and science topics, we tend to frame our thoughts in terms of ourselves. There is a very large portion of the population that also takes into account that every new born comes into the world with zero knowledge. He learns the world through his parents, and is certain to adapt to the world the child finds himself in.
