What weapons were actually used?

Lanza brought 4 weapons with him to the school. 2 semi automatic handguns, a semi automatic rifle and a shotgun. There were no fully automatic weapons employed whatsoever.

There was some initial confusion in reporting the story early on. Some reports indicated that the rifle was found in th trunk of Lanza's car, but this seems to be a misunderstanding. Film footage of the removal of the firearm from the trunk show it to be a shotgun. Apparently intial police reports were to the effect that a "long gun" was in the car, leading some news reporters to conclude that the rifle was in the car and was not used in the shooting. This claim persisted in mainstream media for at least a day. Subsequent reports indicate that Lanza had the rifle and two handguns when he burst into the school and used the rifle exclusively to murder his victims. Then he used one of his handguns to kill himself.

So, the Obama -lied- about the Newtown shooing being done with a full-auto weapon - that is, he intentionally and knowingly used use the incorrect term.

The same 11 would have made it out alive. The idea that a 10 round mag would have changed anything is baseless conjecture. For one, he did not shoot his 30 round mags to completion. Most of them still had several rounds in them. Further, he killed less than 30 people and it only takes one round. At BEST – and even that is a stretch – you would have had people with less holes but just as dead. Even more to the point, reloads only take seconds. They are not long enough to make any real changes unless you are facing another armed individual where draw and fire time really matter. When facing a group of cornered and helpless children, the 2 seconds it takes to reload is meaningless. Lastly, had high cap mags been unavailable, changing existing mags is really simple. All you need is a stronger spring and a deeper well. That would not be hard to come by or difficult to created. The entire push for smaller mags is based in complete conjecture with little to no factual arguments to back it up. You want to change mag size because it would make you feel better, not because it would actually cause any real change.

EDIT: to the OP, if eh corrected himself then he didn’t lie. I don’t level that accusation lightly and I am not going to call the president a liar because of a misplaced word no matter how bad he is. He might be an intellectual mouse when it comes to actual rights and completely anti freedom but I can (and do) attack him regularly on those. I don’t need to reduce myself to the level of mischaracterizing his words in order to so that. Doing so does not bring a person down to his level – it brings them MUCH lower.

Essentially (as happens almost every time the media is worked into a frenzy) they reported things as facts when they did not have all the information so they did not get left behind the other stations that were also reporting things before they knew what was going on.
