Obama first since Ike to win 51% twice

This election was a resounding defeat for the Republicans. They lost the popular vote for the Presidency AND for both houses of Congress. If not for extreme gerrymandering they would not control any of the 3 branches of the federal government.

In short, the election results were as bad as they could conceivably get for Republicans. This is especially true because of the extreme effort of the Republicans to oust President Obama - an EPIC FAILURE!

If this was not a mandate of the Democrats, it was at least a solid vote of confidence.

It was also a VERY clear statement that MAJORITY of the American people disapprove of the Republicans. It was all but a total reprimand of the TEA Party.

So it seems that there was a clear mandate by the American people - a mandate for the Republicans to STFU and cooperate with the Democrats.

That is the strange part, a mandate of what? The economy in shambles, unemployment still well over 7 percent, the debt at 6 trillion, black unemployment skyrocketing, and the stock market is basically flat lined. We are heading for a devaluation of the dollar which will plunge us into recession. I see nothing that made Obama deserve another term he ran the nastiest campaign based on nothing but class warfare. No vision, no plan no nothing he hardly participated in the debates. There was little enthusiasm for Obama, he played to night club crowds while Romney filled stadiums.

Yes, Obama won but I really question the validity of the vote. So if the liberal left wants to say this is a mandate then fine but I find it hard to believe that anyone would brag about the state of the economy, the division in the country, and the state of affairs overseas. Nothing has improved under Obama, nothing.

The vote is valid, Freewill's whining is based merely on unhappiness.

Why we not win in this election cycle, Freewill, is that the electorate is on to the weirdness of the ultra right and the libertarian wings.

The electorate's thinking generally is "Obama is not all that good, but he is a super star compared to the bozos on the Republican weird grass fields. We have no idea what they are eating."

The bottom line is this was a close race from the popular vote standing and the House and Senate stayed under the control of the party that had them going in what you got was a status quo vote not a mandate for either party.

So then 2004 was not a mandate either?
No not really if you win the popular vote by double digits or sweep in the way Reagan did in 1980 or how Obama did 2008 I would call those mandates 2004 and 2012 no not mandates.

Let's get real: The main reason Obama won reelection was that he won landslide majorities (with an average margin of victory of 21.5%) among the two lowest economic groups, i.e., the least successful and least educated among us. Speaking of educated, Obama also won by a landslide among high school dropouts (64% to 36%).

Romney won by an average of 8% among every other economic group, including among those who make $50K to $99K, but his victory among those groups--the most successful and best educated among us--was not enough to offset Obama's landslide win among the two bottom economic groups, and those two groups accounted for 41% of voters.

Nixon 1968 - 43.42%
Nixon 1972 - 60.69%

Reagan 1980 - 50.75%
Reagan 1984 - 58.77%

Bush (43) 2000 - 47.87%
Bush (43) 2004 - 50.70%

It makes no difference what the percentage was on the first term.

Far more significant and more indicative of the success of the President is how his numbers improved by the election for the second term.

Based on that criterion Obama's victory is rather shallow.

And even more significantly:

Obama 2008 - 52.9%
Obama 2012 - 51.7%

So, your god is losing popularity.

So, enjoy your time while you may. Your party will not have the nerve to nominate another failure as this. And whoever your party nominates will be damaged by the primaries just as Romney was in 2012.

You are correct for once. NO president should have been reelected with the performance of this one. No president should have been reelected after what has been done to our grandchildren. No president should have been elected with the country where it is today.

So yes, I am unhappy and worried about the future.

Obama's mandate, TRANSFORM America by bringing us to our knees first, then FORWARD

Daddy Obama makes you ALL Julias/Julians

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Republicans win big again next cycle because RNC and the Moderates stop damaging the franchise

The ultra right and the libertarian wings are doing the damage, Frank, not the mainstream GOP. We lost because of the hate from our wackos.

At least we can say one thing about Obama, he's the very first president to have earned a credit downgrade of the United States. If he continues to kick the can down the road with the respect to spending, he can expect another downgrade. Between his massive spending habits, and a very fragile economy, many Americans feel the best hopes for this country is behind us.

74% of republicans are understandable, but the most identifying voice are the 55% of independents who also see the best years of this country is behind us.

My Republican Party lost, Steph; but your TPM won because you guys paid us back for not selecting one of the loonies. The electorate will not support the loonies of the ultra right and libertarian wings.

In other words, the low-information stupid freeloaders.

"Speaking of educated, Obama also won by a landslide among high school dropouts (64% to 36%)."

In other words, the hopelessly misguided hypocrites who are hell bent on transferring their hatred and and envy and jealousy to the young ones, whom they expect to pay for their own financial irresponsibility, far down the road,

Where do you get your information nudley? From Huffington? Reagan won 50.7 in 1980 and a whopping 58% winning 49 states in a landslide in 1984.
