I have a serious question on this matter. Does anyone out there think the level of violence in Chicago normally, not to even mention the recent beating to death of the teenager by at least three ohter kids played into the decision NOT to award the Olympics to Chicago?

We simply didn't and never had the votes in the council to ever have a chance in hell. Even if Chicago was a perfect Utopia. So, either they thought the "magic of The Obama" was gonna buffalo a bunch of members, captivating them with his charm and charisma, getting them to "drink the juice" as he says, or they knew it was a waste of time but how in the hell can we pass up another world stage?

Knowing the fact that there was no way we had or were going to get the votes, especially in the first round, it all winds up looking like simply a futile exercise in vanity for the President.

I think that there are Americans who see any international conclave, be it the Olympic Games or the United Nations as undesirable for America. And again, I think I'm safe calling such folks "Right Wingers".

Now, since the Olympics are not germane to policy, how did can an Independent come to see losing the Chicago bid as critical enough to our national prestige and an epic failure for the president's standing and political power? Maybe because those overwhelmed with glee that Chicago lost want to tie this can to Obama's tail.
