Obama did what seven Presidents before him tried to do, and failed

Julian Castro says seven presidents before Barack Obama sought universal health care | PolitiFact

He will be remembered as the President who did what many people thought was impossible. INCREDIBLE! :eusa_clap:

And that shows the bias of PolitiFact.

Obama didn't expand healthcare to all Americans. If a Republican made a similarly bogus statement it would be rated false if not pants on fire. Statements by Republicans which are more true than that get rated false and mostly false by PoliticFact.

November is coming and Obamacare is gaining in popularity every day.

Oh, I am still waiting for Sarah Palin's Death Panels....yeah, one of her classic quotes.

I have to disagree. He had to drop the single payer plan like a hot potato.

Not universal coverage: Health care in Canada is based on a simple proposition: every legal resident is covered through a publicly-financed provincial or territorial plan. The individual mandate, derived from a Republican precedent in Massachusetts, stands in stark contrast to Canada’s universality principle. Even though Obamacare broadens coverage, the individual mandate relies on a fundamental insurance principle – care depends on type of coverage – and compels Americans to purchase insurance to access care. Americans now have more affordable insurance options and subsidies to cover their costs, and the lowest-income may be eligible for public coverage through the expansion of Medicaid.

Yes, that's the bias. PolitiFact gave Castro's bogus statement a Mostly True. It is not even close to true. If a Republican made a comparable statement about whatever Republicans would be bragging about, it would get a lower grade.

Heres what they said:
Castro said that "seven presidents before (Obama) -- Republicans and Democrats -- tried to expand health care to all Americans." It’s a slam dunk getting to three or four presidents, and it’s possible to reach seven presidents, but to do that requires a looser interpretation of expanding coverage "to all Americans." On balance, we rate the statement Mostly True.

Which is the same thing you said. You're playing this hypothetical game where everything would've been worse IF...

Your if doesnt apply and in REALITY they judged it correctly

So since Obama had to back off of single payer because the GOP was threatening mass suicide, is it now his fault that we don't have it. You realize that this circular manner of debate is one reason the GOP is failing in nation elections?

NO! usually comes back to bite you one day.

PolitiFact judged the veracity of the statement that 7 presidents tried to get healthcare for all Americans.

They failed to judge the veracity of the claim that Obama achieved it.

Obama did not achieve it. So it doesn't matter how many presidents tried before him. He didn't accomplish it either.

Castro's claim is Pants on Fire false.

Too much spin and lies to go around. The current system was a republican one...

The republicans want nothing. Everything should be thought out as our current obamcare system may not be good enough.

Whoever's fault it is, the fact remains that Obama did not achieve what Castro claimed that he achieved.

Castro's claim is Pants on Fire false.

I think he dropped it because he realized that members of his own party would have sabotaged the effort.

I'm saying there is distinction between expanding coverage and universal coverage.

Yes, Pants on Fire is the likely grade a Republican making a comparably false statement would have received from PolitiFact.

"Seven presidents before him -- Republicans and Democrats -- tried to expand health care to all Americans," Castro said. "President Obama got it done."

Obama did not get it done. Period. He did not succeed in expanding health care to all Americans.

No more than all Americans already had health care. Anyone can theoretically go to an emergency room. That was true before and is still true. But as far as any other definition of expanding health care to all Americans, Obama did not get it done.

So Castro's basic premise is false and it doesn't matter how many presidents tried it before.

If four tried it before Obama, then there are now five failures. If seven tried it before Obama, then there are now eight failures.

"President Obama got it done."

You're failing here. No Republican voted for Obamacare and it passed. How could they have forced them to drop single payer plans?
