The Obama Administration announced a proposed rule that would give work authorization to the spouses of certain H-1B workers, increasing job competition for the 20 million Americans who want full-time work but can’t find it. It does not appear that these spouses will be counted against the visa cap on the category of job they pursue, so the move would expand immigration by executive fiat.

The proposal would, for the first time, allow work permits for the spouses of H-1B workers who have begun the process of applying for a green card through their employers. Currently their spouses can move to the U.S. with them, but are prevented from working.

DHS Deputy Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the proposed rule is meant to keep America competitive as more countries offer incentives to attract the workers. "The proposed rules announced today provide important support to U.S. businesses while also supporting economic growth here in the U.S.," he said. "This enhances our country's competitiveness to attract skilled workers from other countries.” Mayorkas said that about 97,000 people could benefit from the proposal in the first year, and 30,000 each year after.

Reacting to the proposal Stephen Miller, a spokesman for Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., said "The U.S. already provides businesses with 700,000 temporary guest workers every year to compete against unemployed Americans, in addition to the annual flow of 1 million permanent legal immigrants. The administration's unilateral decision to increase that number will hurt already-struggling American workers."

A second rule announced today would make it easier for foreign workers from Chile, Singapore, Australia and the Northern Mariana Islands to extend their stays in the U.S. Workers from these countries who have at least a bachelor's degree in a specialized field are currently allowed to extend their stay, but must document their work history. The proposed rule would give these workers more time in the U.S. and make it easier for them to get DHS approval.

A third proposed rule would facilitate the ability of foreign professors and researchers to extend their stays under the EB-1 visa category.

All those who say they're against illegal immigration, but think legal immigration (including work visas) is OK, should take a good hard look at this, and then look at the millions of Americans who sit on the sidelines unemployed, watching this. :doubt:

Interesting idea, if those spouses also possess valuable skills.

US plan aims to draw skilled spouses of H-1B visa holders - The Times of India

One would think that there is a higher likelihood that the spouse of a high-skill worker will also be well-educated and bring skills that benefit our economy. If they are also part a a stable, two-parent family, it could also have a beneficial social effect.

These are traitorous words. These immigrants are not needed for any reason other than boosting traitorous, greedy companies' profits, resulting in the unemployment of 20 million American workers. They also are social harm by eroding the culture, with foreign customs, ignorance of American laws, history, and culture, and foreign languages and unintelligible accents.

The immigrants are needed to replace the Americans and the dangerous ideas of freedom that those Americans have.

how generous is your Dear leader..?

millions of Americans out of work and they want to bring in foreigners to do it

man oh man, just like he want's to give amnesty to 11-30 million illegal immigrants so you all can fight to the death for a job I guess

And what makes it all the more amazing is how he doesn't seem to be the least bit apologetic about it, and instead (like Unkotare), he pretends that it is somehow beneficial to Americans. Obama is the biggest intelligence insulter I've ever seen.

Obama continues to build up the ranks of Democrat voters while giving the middle finger to millions of unemployed Americans.

I guess this was another reason they re-elected the Dear wonderful leader who's visions are to see us brought down to our knees..

nothing like voting to stab your own self in the back eh?

Revisions to the H1B visa program have been needed for several years. I have some friends, an elderly couple in their sixties, from Britain who lost their business during the crash and were thrown out of the country before they could start a new one. They lost everything they couldn't sell at yard sales.

Amazing how working class Democrats do exactly that. To be fair though, there are increasing number of Republicans who are joining this open borders madness. Mostly to appease big business employers of immigrants, and to pander to the Hispanic vote.

LEGAL immigrants have stronger and more sincere "ideas of freedom" than many native-born Americans. In any case, it's not an 'either or ' proposition.

What kind of a "proposition" it is, is whatever the American people decide to make it be. I sense that there is a growing dissatisfaction with the pandering to Hispanics going on by Congressmen in both parties, and the VOTES-related behavior they exhibit. Many of them may not have to worry about the 9% approval rate they got recently, when they no longer have the job next January.

Is it too late for them to make amends ? Maybe they ought to pay some heed to the votes of the 20 million UNEMPLOYED AMERICANS, and their family members, before November gets here.

Keep your trash out of a clean, respectable thread, you pervert!

Bigots can never keep their true colors hidden for long. LEGAL immigrants are not illegal aliens, and not all illegal aliens are "Hispanic". Of course not all Latinos are immigrants at all (to say the least), but some people are just to shit-all stupid to wrap their wonderbread heads around the notion.
