WH: 'It's True' Some Americans Won't Be Able to Keep Their Health Care Plan Under obamacare

White House spokesman Jay Carney explained at today's briefing that "it's true" some Americans will not be able to keep their health care plan under Obamacare:

The journalist Ed Henry asked, "The president, when he was trying to get the law passed, repeatedly said, if you currently have health insurance you will be able to keep your plan. This morning David Axelrod was pressed on that point and said, the majority -- the vast majority -- will be able to keep their plans. He no longer works at the White House. From the podium, will you admit that when president said, if you have a plan, you'll get to keep it, that that was not true?"

After some throat clearing, Carney said, "So it's true there are existing health care plans on the individual market that do not meet those minimum standards and therefore do not qualify for the Affordable Care Act."

Appearing on NBC’s Meet the Press, CEO of Florida Blue Patrick Geraghty said that his company, which sent insurance cancellations to some 300,000 Floridians this month, was not actually cancelling insurance. Instead, he said, this was a mere transition.



“We’re not cutting people,” said Geraghty, “we’re actually transitioning people. What we’ve been doing is informing folks that their plan doesn’t meet the test of the essential health benefits; therefore, they have a choice of many options that we make available through the exchange. And, in fact, with subsidy, many people will be getting better plans at a lesser cost. This really is a transition. In fact, the 300,000 figure is the entire year. So it’s really 40,000 people for January 1, and we’re walking them through that transition.”

But millions of Americans are getting or are about to get cancellation letters for their health insurance under Obamacare, say experts,and the Obama administration has known that for at least three years.



Four sources deeply involved in the Affordable Care Act tell NBC NEWS that 50 to 75 percent of the 14 million consumers who buy their insurance individually can expect to receive a “cancellation” letter or the equivalent over the next year because their existing policies don’t meet the standards mandated by the new health care law. One expert predicts that number could reach as high as 80 percent. And all say that many of those forced to buy pricier new policies will experience “sticker shock.”

Not to nitpick, but Obama made that promise more than three years ago. So if he learned his promise would not come true only three years ago, then he was just being his usual stupid self at the time he made it.

I think when it comes to most politicians, it is just a question of whether they are stupid, or evil. It depends on whether or not they know what they are saying is false. If they don't, they are stupid. If they do, they are evil.

The "you can keep the insurance you have" promise was stupid.

The "I won't sign a plan that adds one dime to the federal deficit" was evil. I don't know why his head didn't explode when he said that.

No....the "you can keep the insurance you have" promise was an evil lie.....they knew that providing more coverage aka the new Obamacare requirements meant that rates would necessarily skyrocket and the old plans would have to be scratched...
