    Well...those types of scripts almost never work.
    Keep in mind over 99% of all viruses do not actually do any harm.

    In these cases the companies are partially to blame because they didn't anticipate the possibility. Everywhere I've worked, when an IT person is let go, especially under less then ideal circumstances, precautions at taken to prevent these sort of issues.
    In one instance we sent security to an IT guy's office with the guys' director while the guy was on break, when he returned, he was allowed to get his personal items, was not allowed near the computer, his company owned laptop was taken from him, thumb drives/CDs/DVDs removed from his briefcase and or key chain and he was physically escorted off the property.

    Would it not be possible for him to remotely connect by a pre-created means, and do the damage from there?

    Exactly. So one can take all the precautions in the world, and still wind up at risk.
