Never piss off the IT guy

In these cases the companies are partially to blame because they didn't anticipate the possibility. Everywhere I've worked, when an IT person is let go, especially under less then ideal circumstances, precautions at taken to prevent these sort of issues.
In one instance we sent security to an IT guy's office with the guys' director while the guy was on break, when he returned, he was allowed to get his personal items, was not allowed near the computer, his company owned laptop was taken from him, thumb drives/CDs/DVDs removed from his briefcase and or key chain and he was physically escorted off the property.
