Police officer turned Liberal MP Jason Wood is calling on the government to introduce a national database on violent gangs to better tackle the growing problem of youth street crime in Victoria.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull yesterday accused the Victorian Labor government of not doing enough to stop youth crime and gang violence in suburban Melbourne.

But Mr Wood has fallen short of directly levelling blame at Premier Daniel Andrews and instead said Labor needs to acknowledge the growing problem on a federal scale.

Just recognize the mistakes that have been made when other's have done this so you don't repeat them.

Victoria Police already has a database program of offenders ... called LEAP.

Law Enforcement Assistance Program. A very strained acronym in my opinion.

So........does theirs work? And do they simply want a national version of the program?
