NASA’s spacecraft that landed on Mars on Monday has beamed back its first clear photo of the desolate Red Planet.

“There’s a quiet beauty here. Looking forward to exploring my new home,” NASA tweeted late Monday, hours after its new InSight lander touched down.

The image came after the rover had earlier sent back a somewhat blurry photo. The space agency said that in the interim, the spacecraft had opened its solar panels, which allowed it to recharge its batteries for the mission.

Are they sure it didn’t land in west Texas?

Nope, definitely MARS....

Wow great picks and it does look like Texas. LOL

Those breathtakingly clear photos look a lot like the regular old photos they've sent back before.

Mars, for all it's mystique, is a very boring tourist destination.

Yes it is. Its very boring to look at but I sure would like to see some more of the planet.

Especially the Face on Mars. They still have no idea what that is.

They know precisely what it is... it's a rock. It happens to look like a human face when photographed from a certain angle under specific lighting conditions. In other photographs, it looks precisely like a rock.

Rocks, and not particularly interesting ones, is pretty much all Mars has to offer.

The Ivans and Chinese have to be FREAKED out today....if we can do this, think of what we've weaponized with NASA technology. That thing could have burned up or landed on it's head and we'd have been out $830M but it didn't now did it? MAGA!

They had two tiny cubesats trailing it that they claim use "off the shelf" cameras (yeah right)...when the Insight chute opened they beat it off into space snapping shots of anything they're interested in until the Sun burns them up....what a time to be alive and seeing this happen! :highfive:

Once again scientists have landed a spaceship on a proverbial dime on a planet 40 million miles away that rotates 241 meters per second. I think I`m gonna trust them on this climate change thing.

The surfaceof the earth at the equator moves at a speed of 460 meters per second--or roughly 1,000miles per hour.....
No need to thank me for showing how STUPID you are!

It took eleven posts (well ten actually) for someone to politicize this, and take the opportunity to promote climate change. Again, nobody disputes the climate is changing. Nobody has offered objective proof man is the cause, or a significant contributor.

Science, and engineering can do great things, but the ones pushing man as the culprit are as corrupt, and bias as the POLITICIANS PAYING THEM.

And An Even Worse Place To Live And Work

Why There Will NEVER Be A Colony On Mars
Or Even A Continually Manned Station

Revisiting the Face on Mars
But first, let’s revisit the Face on Mars. Back in 1976, the imaging technology was inferior to today’s, and the resolution of the images was significantly lower. Even compared to 1998, the resolution of space images has increased dramatically. Let’s compare the Face from lowest to highest resolution:

MarsFaceComparison.jpg

The 1976 version sure does look like a face, and if you strain your eyes, you might still see a face in the 1998 version. But what about the 2001 version? Not so much.

Let’s look even closer at the 2001 version, just to be sure:

At the highest resolution, you need to slide the goalposts pretty wide to see a face.
The Face on Mars: Alien Architecture or Example of Pareidolia? – Relatively Interesting

A planet that can never sustain life, no livable atmosphere, too cold, can't grow anything, what are we going to do with it?

I understand we have to crawl before we can walk, but until we can travel to inhabitable planets... The 6 Most Earth-like Alien Planets... we're really just in a learning phase.

We need a mode of interstellar propulsion that isn't archaic like rockets. It takes seven MONTHS with rocket propulsion just to get to Mars, a planet not from us.

No... that's just you making an idiot of yourself again.
