I have to admit i'm pretty surprised to see this in a Socialist/Progressive-run Newspaper like the NY Times. Kudos to them on this one.

Critics of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will relish opening a copy of Saturday’s New York Times.

The paper will feature a full-page color ad of Hizzoner wearing a dress, under the banner “The Nanny.”

The ad, paid for by the Center for Consumer Freedom, targets Bloomberg for his health-related proposal to ban the sale of sugared soft drinks in servings larger than 16 ounces.

“Today” show host Matt Lauer told Bloomberg Friday that his proposal “sounds ridiculous” — especially since City Hall deemed it appropriate to celebrate Friday as “National Doughnut Day.”

“It doesn’t sound ridiculous,” Bloomberg responded. He claimed he merely wants to promote moderation — something he also advocates, but has taken no action to enforce, for doughnut consumption.

At least one company isn’t pleased with Bloomberg’s anti-soda proposal. Fast-food giant McDonald’s tweeted Friday, “@MikeBloomberg We trust our customers to make the choices that are best for them.”

“What’s next?” the Times ad asks. “Limits on the width of a pizza slice, size of a hamburger or amount of cream cheese on your bagel?” The Center for Consumer Freedom is food industry-funded, but has long advocated for personal responsibility and less government control over food and beverages.

Bloomberg has long been an object of scorn from libertarian-minded constituents who, among other things, despise his ongoing quest to stomp out cigarette smoking.

Nearly everyone thinks this is absurd. Heath Nazis are a tribe of their own. They should all just move to San Francisco where they can live healthy eating vegan gruel, shooting smack and having unprotected butt sex.

You know the complaint by some that we should just stay out of the business of Wisconsin? That local politics should not become national spectacle?

Nice to see "both" sides of the Political fence find this disturbing.

It is kind of stupid, people who are outside all day, such as myself, depend on on plus sized drinks.

Kudos to Bloomberg. Most people either lack the information or just don't have the interest to take care of themselves. It takes a Village

Bloomy knows best

Wow. Tell us how you really feel.

The ice doesn't melt in your area? Bloomberg was recently a Republican, this may be a bit much, but he is after the SUPER sizers. Keeping soda out of public schools is one thing, but a city wide ban raises liberty concerns.

Then, there's this:

In a dramatic shift, the Bloomberg administration acknowledged its high-profile effort to end so-called social promotion was “detrimental” for some city kids.

The Education Department plans to roll back part of the policy and give principals greater flexibility to promote third- through seventh-graders who’ve been held back multiple times or are, for other reasons, two years older than their classmates.

The current requirements forbid schools from promoting students who score the lowest on state exams.

The change — and the city’s plans to provide more funding to schools that serve the overage kids — earned praise from some advocates and experts who have long suggested that students weren’t served by simply repeating a grade.

“The practice of retaining students year after year without investing in improving their education has been problematic, so it’s good to see some steps in the right direction,” said Advocates for Children executive director Kim Sweet.

Bloomberg is a fiscal conservative. He ran as a Republican..

He doesn't really care all that much about public health..unless it impacts the bottom line.

And the bottom line in NYC is that they don't turn people away from the emergency room. Unlike Jan Brewer..in Arizona..who let people die because of lack of funds for medical procedures..that really isn't done here.

So the Mayor..in his conservative wisdom..seeks to keep people from getting fat. To save cost.

He isn't building new atheletic facilities..or encouraging wellness. He's dictating what you can and can't do.

That's the conservative way.

Here we go again calling Bloomberg a conservative.

Michael Bloomberg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Democrat before seeking elective office, Bloomberg switched his registration in 2001 and ran for mayor as a Republican, winning the election that year and a second term in 2005. Bloomberg left the Republican Party over policy and philosophical disagreements with national party leadership in 2007 and ran for his third term in 2009 as an independent candidate on the Republican ballot line.

He's just a confused and dizzy LOLberal.

Surprised at you, Sally....

...as a NY-er, you know very well that Bloomberg was always a Democrat, and ran as a Republican simply to avoid primaries....

True?

Now tell the truth....
