When occupied by Jordan, Palestinians on the west bank recieved full civil rights, including the right to vote, something radically different from their dilemma today. The sense of rage and solidarity came through the Israeli expusion and occupation.
Jews in Brooklyn don't call for independence and separation, because they are content with the status quo. You are being hypocritical in your judgements. Yes, theoretically Palestinian Arabs could retreat to some other country (and many have), but we could say the same thing about Jews. There are many countries Jews could retreat to, and be more than welcomed, and more than fit in, in regard to language, culture, and sociological attributes. Why don't they? They like it where they are, and feel a certain nostalgic sense of home. So too the Palestinians.
