My plan for education

No argument from me, acludem. Blaming educational problems on liberals is simply, in my opinion, political gobbledy-goop. It offers no solutions to the problems.

While I do believe that some of the problems were, and still are cause by liberal viewpoints, no solutions are offered by simply "throwing out the liberals".

I am also old enough and wise enough to know that there are two sides to every issue. The answer is usually neither right nor left, but almost always somewhere in between. In younger days, I saw things as more black & white, but I now understand that very few things in life are that simple.

Well said.

Yeah, you have standards. rolleyes:

You don't want to feed the kids and you want to let ANYONE teach them.:
I have to defend at least part of what rtwng said now. I do not think that a teaching degree makes you a teacher. I also don't think that all teachers need to be trained in a university's education department to be effective.

I am an example of that. I received a B.S. degree in electrical engineering. During my last semester, I received and accepted a job offer to enter the EE field. Between the time I accepted the offer and my graduation, the company fell on hard times and my job offer was rescinded. I took a job (short-term, I thought) as science teacher while I went job searching. Twenty-one years later, I'm still at it.

I found that I enjoyed teaching. I love kids and like watching them learn. I just never wanted to go back and look for work in EE. I feel I'm an effective teacher, and always have been. My only educational training from a university, though, came after I had actually been in the classroom for one year. Even then, I found most of the information offered by the university to be unrealistic and unusable in the real world.

I think that's whay rtwng was trying to express.

Yes. I guess saying "education courses are totally unnecessary to be an effective teacher." is too confusing. Geez. Thanks tn_indy!:D

Another point on the Breakfeast. Arent liberals attacking Americans for being too fat already? How is giving them more food going to fix the obesity problem?

Geez, the partisan attacks continue.
Americans are fat from over-consumption and bad eating habits.
I've never heard that eating breakfast before school/work leads to obesity.

Super-size that.

Puh-leeease....

The issue of black teacher competency is raised in some detail by the Thernstroms. This has long been a hot potato. In the original 1966 Coleman Report (On Equality of Educational Opportunity) the data on black teachers was dropped entirely from the published report because they were so devastatingly bad, particularly for male teachers. Suppression of the data continued until the early 1990s, shortly before the death of Prof. Coleman. In California only 35% of African-Americans have been passing the California Basic Educational Skills Test and as a result they filed "the largest employment discrimination suit ever filed in federal court." This suit involved over 50,000 minority plaintiffs. The State of California ruling in 1966 noted that "School teachers who use improper grammar or spelling, or who make mistakes in simple calculations, modeled that behavior for their students -- much to the detriment of their education."

"If you know something the kids don't and you can explain it, you should be able to teach."

-um, I think it takes a LITTLE more than that.

You're behind, Diptardo.

Face it, education classes are unnecessary; it's just a way for the academic (liberal) establishment to keep itself in firm control of the nation's youth. Heil The Communist Eggheads! Thought Police Mother Fuckers.

You know, these libs in education are basically holding our children hostage to achieve their socialist goals, that's why all they ever fncking do is blame society. Basically they're telling us they're not doing anything until we achieve a classless society, and we just stand their eating this shit and asking for more like fncking fools.

But we were talking about what is necessary to make a good teacher. The current system mandates education classes, so it was an implied part of the conversation. Are you an idiot? Why do you persist with your little ineffective quips. You just revealed that you don't even know what the hell the conversation is about and you're just on here to see your idiotic thoughts limp to the page in an unwarranted fit of epileptic self-reverie. Get a grip, rainman. "Water burn baby!"
