Governors' Walker, Kasich, Christie and McDonnell spoke earlier tonight, along with Ann Romney.

Romney and Christie were the big-two speakers, with Mitt's wife warming her husband up and Christie delivering the keynote.

There was an interesting theme that played out: They all talked about an era in America when their parents or grandparents came to the country with nothing and made something of themselves.

They riffed the whole evening on President Obama's quote "You Didn't Build That", continuing to take it out of context. Obama was talking about how it takes all of us working together to get stuff like roads and bridges done, which then allow for small businesses to flourish.

But Republicans take it to mean that self-reliance is frowned upon while suckin' on the gov't teat is the ONLY way.

So then they all get to talking about a bygone era where their folks and grandfolks came here with nothing and made something of themselves. That's all nice and good, but the G.I. Bill got Gov. Christie's dad his education.

Rick Santorum took public money to home school his kids. Most people do.

The Public Works Administration, which came to be under FDR, and which was signed off by both cons and libs, put the country back to work, giving some of their ancestors jobs.

A gov't bailout of Salt Lake City allowed for Mitt Romney to turn the Olympics around.

Gov't action in Mass. passed by Romney allowed for scholarships for thousands of kids out there.

Ann Romney said that Mitt Romney wasn't given anything, and built himself up on his own. Does anybody really believe that?

They stand there, hypocrites the lot of them, trying to say that self-reliance and self-reliance alone was responsible for their successes, but the facts don't bare that out. Indeed, they did NOT build themselves up alone. It was a mix of being given help by both other family members and the government and then, finally, self-reliance and hard work and determination that got them where they are today.

Their hypocrisy is just so fucking lame to watch. They stand there and believe the crap they're peddling in their own invented reality.

I thought Christie was good. He's a good public speaker and has done a lot of good in NJ the hard way, I think hes got a bright future.

Ann Ronmey's BS talk about love is just that BS. If the GOP would grow up and embrace same sex marriage I think then they could say they do know what love for each and every American means. Till then, they are full of shit and just plain pathetic for peddling their current anti-gay agenda.

So by the same token.....

If the DNC would grow up and embrace babies rather than kill them.

They cry out that "Government didn't build this country, we did!!!" or some other bumper sticker motto. Then, in the same breathe, they'll spew about how our country was built and maintains freedom only because of the military.

As if the government and military aren't the same fucking thing.

Welcome to bizzaro far right wing land.

Still cant be honest about the context of Obama's "You didn't build that" remark? What's wrong with you lefties? Is it really that difficult to say that Obama said something stupid?

but do you really believe that republican's daughters don't have abortions? or republicans don't have abortions? :eusa_whistle:

If the DNC would grow up and embrace babies rather than kill them.

this is a woman's issue, im not going to even get into it. You are comparing apples to oranges and it makes no sense.

Abortion is a huge issue right now for one main issue, well, really two. First off the Akin comments were beyond creepy and just plain mean and ignorant. You can thank him for making this an issue. Also, the odd behaviors shown by men on the right with women's health rights. Some of the talking points coming from the right are just plain offensive to women, thats not anyone's fault but the Republicans. Let women make their own choices and this issue will go away, same with gay rights. Just treat them as equals as they deserve and these social issues will go away.

I dont think our children are just a woman's issue. Our children our the responsibility of both men and women. We dont create them alone. We arent supposed to raise them alone.

I agree, I had two parents who loved each other Avatar, I swear to you I never once saw them fight. They were married for 13 years before having kids so they had a strong bond before I even came along. Fast forward to my late teen years, I had a hard time finding a girl friend that had a similar back ground, so many kids my age were raised in a single parent house and it does make a difference, big time. I agree with you, two parents are preferred.

No one likes abortion, and if they do, they are sick! But its an option that needs to be on the table. Its a womans choice if she wants to do that to her body. I had an ex GF get an abortion after we had separated and she was dating a older gent who got her knocked up. She came to me for help as they were not going to work, so I helped her the best way I could. She asked me to escort her to the abortion facility and it was scary as people were out side being nasty and ignorant. The worst part was how t affected my EX, it destroyed her for a long while. She eventually moved on and now has 3 kids she can not support. Now I have not seen her in years but trust me, she already has her hands full with three kids, 4 would be insane.

I just see this as a woman's right to choose to bring a life into this fvcked up world.

No. It really doesnt need to be on the table. It wouldn't be easy. The best choices in life never are. But there is an innocent child who doesnt deserve to be killed.

Adoptions are always available. We need to start making adoption laws easier to navigate.

You forgot the great speech from Artur Davis, who in 2008 seconded the motion that allowed Obama to become the Democrat candidate for president. He told how he was once a believer of the flowery rhetoric he heard from Obama but has since realized that rhetoric was nothing but empty promises.

Walkers, Kasich and Christie all shared how they turned their state's fiscal problems around without increasing taxes but making necessary cuts.

You forgot Nikki Haley, whose speech centered around how Obama has stood in the way of progress and jobs by suing her state time and time again and even suing company within the state, losing that case.

What president looks upons his own states as enemies to sue?

YOu point out that these speakers were hypocrites for the family and government had helped make them what they are today. Just what government help did each of these individuals have that made them a success? And don't tell me they drove on a road or crossed a bridge. That horse is dead.

OP: How do you take "you didn't build that" out of context. I think that's pretty straightforward. You can watch the entire minute rant and be absolutely disgusted. Obama said what he meant and we take him at his word. Now, does that mean that he wasn't make a larger point? Of course not. But he was acting as though building a business is a walk in the park and that other people are disproportionately "building" it. His context was that government is responsible for business and it's not. WE THE PEOPLE.

What makes you think anyone should love every American? Plenty of Americans deserve to be hated, like most of the Democrats in politics, for example.

No, they aren't the "same fucking thing." For example, EPA bureacrats are not the military. I certainly don't owe my freedom to the EPA.

That whole rant from Obama with that crowd around him mocking people whole build a business was awful. Why he chose to belittle people who in spite of government try to make a go of it.

He went on for a bit about saying they (business owners) think they are smart...there are a lot of smart people out there....

That's not a knock against the folks this country needs to get this country moving again.???

Good job last night at the convention...

We need to remind people right up to election day that this President holds business owners in contempt.Nothing was taken out of context. This President made his feelings perfectly clear.

“If you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen”

Barack Hussein Obama

Just like you assholes are doing it.

you took a few words out of a long sentance to make it sound like he said something other than he was saying.

Lie away you fucking asshole.

it doesnt change the fact that you have to LIE to try and sound like your side has something to offer this country
