Mitt Romney bullying story holds up to scrutiny

Here's a photo of the incident.....

Is that Mitt cowering under one of the shrubs?

Mittens should feel right at home tomorrow at Liberty. They don't allow "counterculture" hair there.

From their handbook:

Hair and clothing styles related to a counterculture (as determined by the Student Affairs Deans’ Review Committee) are not acceptable. Hair should be cut in such a way that it will not come over the ears, collar or eyebrows at any time. Ponytails for men are unacceptable.

Lefties are so overcome with hatred that they lost their concept of "scrutiny". Allegations that Bill Clinton was a rapist and world class abuser of women held up to scrutiny. (His enabler wife is the freaking Secretary of State today but that's beside the point). Charges by the left that Romney may have engaged in bullying while in high school forty years ago is hearsay and so significantly frivolous that Romney leads Barry Hussein in the polls..

Sooo, is Romney setting a new trend for bullies to simply say they were just "pranksters" in their younger days? Sounds like it to me...

Five first hand witnesses is not hearsay.

Five "eyewitnesses", yet the only person the WaPo chose to quote wasn't even there.

Keep crying "WOLF!", lolberals.

There have been a number of uncited factual claims about the incident or the reportage. This one is most easily debunked, since one only has to read the article. I'm not sure why the standard should be the number of people directly quoted. The more relevant number is the people who went on the record: five students who were present had substantially the same recollection, and four gave their names.

In any event, it is incorrect to say that WaPo did not quote any students who were there. The story (Mitt Romney’s prep school classmates recall pranks, but also troubling incidents - The Washington Post) directly quotes four students who were present: Maxwell, Buford, Friedemann, and Romney (the latter of course claiming not to recall the incident).

It's worth noting that the standard WaPo has met-- four witnesses on the record-- would have prevented most of the substantial stories reporting the existence of Iraqi WMDs, most of which relied on anonymous Bush administration officials.

After the victim finally came forward with credible allegations of Rape 1st, a class A felony, Bill Clinton escaped prosecution and even serious criticism because the statute of limitations expired and now you lefties want to talk about a forty year old insult that Romney is alleged to have committed in high school? Get some freaking perspective lefties.

no statute of limitations on libtard agendas.

4, as the one guy they actually quoted says he wasn't there.

So, they have 4 eyewitnesses, none of whom they bothered to actually quote.

Amazing that the left could come up with five freaking first hand witnesses to an incident that happened in high school forty years ago. The left dismissed the testimony of one of Clinton's felony victims because the statute of limitations expired.

Does this Romney bully story have a statute of limitations? It's called vetting. What's your point?

You're quite a liar. Here's the original article:

Mitt Romney’s prep school classmates recall pranks, but also troubling incidents - The Washington Post

“It happened very quickly, and to this day it troubles me,” said Buford, the school’s wrestling champion, who said he joined Romney in restraining Lauber. Buford subsequently apologized to Lauber, who was “terrified,” he said. “What a senseless, stupid, idiotic thing to do.”

“It was a hack job,” recalled Maxwell, a childhood friend of Romney who was in the dorm room when the incident occurred. “It was vicious.”

“He was just easy pickin’s,” said Friedemann, then the student prefect, or student authority leader of Stevens Hall, expressing remorse about his failure to stop it.

How can anyone lie the way you do, when it's so simple to demonstrate your falsehoods?

The "left" didn't. What Washington Post did.

Like looking for his birth certificate, claiming he was enrolled in a Madrassa, claiming he was a Muslim. Grow the hell up, and show some intellectual honesty. The media went through Obama's past with a fine tooth comb, and came up with some really stupid tin foil theories in the process.

Tell you what Dick, he claims to be a Christian, yet he is in support of Gay Marriage, the two don't mix, hows that fine tooth comb working for ya...

Why don't they mix? Be specific, wingnut.

Christ.

If any one of us was to be judged by who we were and what we did in high school, we'd all be fucked and sent to hell.

Fuck.
It's just another glimpse into his character, and the events which shaped his life and the way he treats people.

His current lies about it, coupled with his laughing about it, are far more important than what he did as a privileged prep boy.

Here’s the original, emphasis added in both:

“I always enjoyed his pranks,” said Stu White, a popular friend of Romney’s who went on to a career as a public school teacher and has long been bothered by the Lauber incident. “But I was not the brunt of any of his pranks.”
And the update:

“I always enjoyed his pranks,” said Stu White, a popular friend of Romney’s who went on to a career as a public school teacher and said he has been “disturbed” by the Lauber incident since hearing about it several weeks ago, before being contacted by The Washington Post. “But I was not the brunt of any of his pranks.”

The new Editor’s Note reads:

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story reported that White “has long been bothered” by the Lauber incident. White later clarified in a subsequent interview that he has been disturbed by the incident since he learned of it several weeks ago from a former classmate, before being contacted by The Washington Post.

Why did you lie when you claimed that only White was quoted? Are you really this stupid? The fact remains that the story was corrected before it went into print. In any case, White wasn't even used as a source of the event.

The incident was recalled similarly by five students, who gave their accounts independently of one another. Four of them — Friedemann, now a dentist; Phillip Maxwell, a lawyer; Thomas Buford, a retired prosecutor; and David Seed, a retired principal — spoke on the record. Another former student who witnessed the incident asked not to be identified. The men have differing political affiliations, although they mostly lean Democratic. Buford volunteered for Barack Obama’s campaign in 2008. Seed, a registered independent, has served as a Republican county chairman in Michigan. All of them said that politics in no way colored their recollections.

BTW, here's Seed's quote. He was the one who was a Republican county chair:

Sometime in the mid-1990s, David Seed noticed a familiar face at the end of a bar at Chicago O’Hare International Airport.

“Hey, you’re John Lauber,” Seed recalled saying at the start of a brief conversation. Seed, also among those who witnessed the Romney-led incident, had gone on to a career as a teacher and principal. Now he had something to get off his chest.

“I’m sorry that I didn’t do more to help in the situation,” he said.

Lauber paused, then responded, “It was horrible.” He went on to explain how frightened he was during the incident, and acknowledged to Seed, “It’s something I have thought about a lot since then.”

This Romney story went to hell in a hand basket when they interviewed the guys sister (the guy died in 2004) and she said she knew nothing about this incident growing up (you figure a sister would know if her brother was being bullied in school)...especially the hair cutting part (Im certain a sister would recognize this). According to her this is not true.

Yeah, because people naturally want to blab about it when they are publicly humiliated. Fool.

The story is true, because it's been confirmed by people who were there, and because Bishop Romney hasn't denied it.

Three of the four witnesses that stand by the story are hard leftists and the fourth works on the obama campaign. The fifth witness never heard of it until he heard of it in WaPo.
Do you get paid to be a liar or does it just come naturally?
