Mitt Romney bullying story holds up to scrutiny

Four of the five witnesses to the forcible haircut cited by the Post are on the record, by name, and remember it well. Their accounts remain unchallenged. I also think it’s important to point out that Romney quickly apologized after the story was published, and although not a detailed apology, I think his demeanor in the apology seemed genuine.

...

The Post has received no specific complaint of inaccuracy from the Lauber family, Merida said. “We stand by the story. It’s a full portrait. It’s the story of Mitt Romney’s years at Cranbrook.”

What the media needs to do is vet Obama's past to the fullest. Everything seems to be turning out as a composite, like his girlfriends.

Like looking for his birth certificate, claiming he was enrolled in a Madrassa, claiming he was a Muslim. Grow the hell up, and show some intellectual honesty. The media went through Obama's past with a fine tooth comb, and came up with some really stupid tin foil theories in the process.

Tell you what Dick, he claims to be a Christian, yet he is in support of Gay Marriage, the two don't mix, hows that fine tooth comb working for ya...

Sure they do.

Thank you for setting the record straight. Righties are foaming at the mouth as they try to discredit this factual story.

The Post reporter, Jason Horowitz, told GQ that the story originated as a look into Mitt Romney’s prep school days — the bullying stories simply came out of that reporting. He also firmly denied that the story originated as opposition research from a rival campaign. “This is an entirely independently reported story, with no help from any politically affiliated partisan side. This was all just talking to people who went to school with him.”

Late Update: The Post’s Kris Coratti sends this statement to TPM: “We’ve reviewed all of our reporting and we stand by our story.”

This Romney story went to hell in a hand basket when they interviewed the guys sister (the guy died in 2004) and she said she knew nothing about this incident growing up (you figure a sister would know if her brother was being bullied in school)...especially the hair cutting part (Im certain a sister would recognize this). According to her this is not true.

Dear God, now a murdered gay man's mother is blaming Romeny because he might have cut a classmate's long hair in 1965...............geeze Lakhota, can't you do any better than that???

:dig:

"The family of John Lauber is releasing a statement saying the portrayal of John is factually incorrect and we are aggrieved that he would be used to further a political agenda,” she said."

“There will be no more comments from the family.”

It would help if the family was a little more specific about what was factually incorrect. Their statement is vague and meaningless.

WaPost spokesman Jake Starkey said they stand by their made up story
