*Mike Johnson Speakership Is Tainted*

Who is Mike Johnson, the newly elected House speaker?

25 Oct 2023 ~~ By Caroline Linton

Johnson, who represents a district in western Louisiana, was first elected to the House in 2016. He is a close ally of former President Donald Trump who had led many of the 2020 election challenges.
What is Johnson's connection to 2020 election challenges?
After the 2020 election, Johnson led an amicus brief signed by more than 100 House Republicans in support of a lawsuit brought by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to overturn the election results in four swing states won by President Biden.
The brief claimed that the officials and courts in each of the battleground states unconstitutionally usurped the power granted to state legislators by changing election rules in 2020. The Supreme Court rejected the request, saying it lacked legal standing.

Ahead of the Jan. 6, 2021, joint session of Congress to count the Electoral College votes, Johnson urged lawmakers to follow a "third option," saying the way the states had changed voting rules during the pandemic had been unconstitutional, according to The New York Times.

Commentary:
How quickly the the political knives come out for Speaker Johnson less than an hour after being elected Speaker of the House.
That does sound like a RINO to me.
Actually, i have the impression that Trump now has an ally in the Speakers chair. Re-elect him, flip a couple of Senate seats and go to work in 2025
There is still hope for the USA..
Meanwhile Democrat Socialists of America cheer for Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran while undermining our Constitution. Bill of Rights and above all order in the Congress of America.
You are likely to lose the House next year.... More than likely his time is short as Speaker! Imo.... Though, you might win the Senate back? :dunno:

He's making some encouraging comments regarding a stopgap measure to keep the government open. The question is........will the Crazy allow him to reach out to Dems in search of cooperation and compromise or will they sack him for doing so like McCarthy?
Not even one Democrat voted for Johnson.

Republicans versus Democrats instead of both parties trying to pass bipartisan legislation for the good of the American people. Two factions more interested in fighting each other than in compromising for the good of the country.

I agree. But anyone who wants to compromise and diverges from loyalty to Trump in the Republican Party is branded a RINO and purged from leadership, making compromise legislation in most areas impossible.

So we get a Speaker of The House like Pence who wants a national law against abortion and even believes the earth was created 6,000 to 10,000 years ago by an act of God! The slime-bucket Trump of course doesn’t agree with any of this, nor do most Americans, but Johnson is still loyal to Trump and that is decisive for the “Trump Party.”

Not even one Democrat voted for Johnson.

Of course. Party-line votes for Speaker are traditional in Congress, but let’s face it — Johnson was no compromise candidate! You can hardly expect Dems to vote for a man like Johnson — a Trump sycophant and prominent election denier — to be third in line for the Presidency!

Just look at Johnson’s record:

Besides his reactionary line on Social Security and Medicare… Johnson is a member in good standing of the Louisiana State “old boys club” of white Republican politicians. His general views (other than his support for Trump) are highly objectionable to most Americans … and probably even to Donald Trump, who is convinced this absolutely does not matter now. He can always call Johnson a RINO later as he did Pence.

Johnson is a Protestant fundamentalist who supports a NATIONAL abortion ban, at one time even supporting a bill outlawing abortion at conception. He has supported measures to prevent and punish pregnant women going out of state to seek legal abortions. He is actually a supporter of the young earth creationist movement that believes that the Earth was created between 6,000 and 10,000 years ago by an act of God.

He’s against legal and popular same-sex marriages .

He’s against all legal “medical marijuana” laws.
As a key defender of the Trump “Big Lie” he voted to overturn the 2020 election and unsuccessfully appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court.

In January 2021, Johnson voted to overturn the election results … in Pennsylvania.

Johnson was among the 147 Republicans that also voted against setting up or participating in a national Congressional Investigation of the Jan. 6th storming of the United States Congress. By refusing to participate, refusing to impeach Trump, refusing to condemn Trump’s “Big Lie” even though most leading Republicans knew it was made up, the RNC made it impossible to create a non-partisan consensus, and demonstrated they would prostrate themselves before Trump and his ignorant cult supporters.

Other than all this — and more we will probably quickly discover — I’m sure Louisiana Rep. Mike Johnson is “a charming man.”

Mike Johnson is a Trump supporter. You wouldn't attack him if he was a RINO.

When have Dims supported anything for the good of the country?

He sounds like a great choice for speaker. You Dim turds got exactly the opposite of what you were hoping for.

McCarthy was willing to compromise with Democrats but they all voted him out of the Speaker role despite that.

A true “compromise” Speaker of the House would have to be a right-centrist Republican who does not toady to the criminal Donald Trump, or a more or less Conservative Democrat or Independent — Why there are practically no such Independents and how we can get some elected is a subject I have broached often in my OPs and comments on RCV and other electoral reforms.

Of course just a few Republicans truly fed up with Trump’s demagogy and megalomania could easily help elect a regular Democrat as Speaker, and get some guarantees as part of the bargain.

But all these possibilities are made all but impossible by the way committee assignments and legislation is usually initiated in Congress, and above all by the fact that Trump and MAGA Republicans would crucify any deviant “RINO” Republican. If Mike Johnson is eventually given the “Pence Treatment” or simply proves incompetent in holding the party together, we may yet still see such an almost unprecedented development.

What makes you believe Republicans want to compromise with Dims on the choice of speaker? Was Nazi Pelosi a compromise? You're damn right we would crucify any RINO. You're delusional if you believe Republicans are going to allow Democrats to have any say in the choice of speaker.

As for the rest of your blather

Utter nonsense. If Democrats wanted a compromise they had ample opportunity to seek one BEFORE they voted out McCarthy. Clearly they cannot be trusted. Instead Democrats blinded themselves fantasizing about Jefferies getting the nod. Stop whining about a situation Democrats created.
