Jonathan Martin's Blog: McCain now appears to back AIG bailout - Politico.com

I just want to point out that this is a man that has been in congress for 24 years but he didnt know how not supporting the bailout would effect the american people and now he supports the bailout. Are you fricken kidding me. I expect these mistakes from Obama due to his inexperience but at least Obama said he couldnt comment until he knew all the facts and people gave him hell for that. Is Mccain the dumbest politician in Congress?

I'll touch this one. These corporate bailouts are unconstitutional because Congress is the only body allowed to deal with the taxpayers money. Congress had nothing to do with these bailouts, the Federal Reserve handled them. Of course, the Federal Reserve itself is unconstitutional but there you have it.

Better to plug the hole in the dam, than let the dam fail and drown us all.

Well, that wasnt the point I was trying to make. My point was that with someone who talks about how experienced he is, how could he not know that thousands would lose their pensions if the government didnt bail out AIG. It shows that even someone who is IN CONGRESS FOR 24 YEARS STILL DOESNT KNOW WHATS GOING ON. Whether they are unconstitutional or not is for another post. I was looking to get some of the Right-wingers on the board to respond but I guess they have nothing to say.

It's come to the point where McCain flip flopping on an issues is basically normal. I mean, what has he not flipped on? Taxes, immigration, regulation, experience and you name it!

I would rather see handups to the guys struggling to put together a hard days work than a bailout to a billionaire.

I'm happy with no handouts across the board, that's fair, capitalism, sink or swim. I am not happy with socialism for the wealthy.

I get why it might be 'necessary' but it pisses me off that it is not fair that the wealthy get the money (where'd it come from?) and the taxpayer ultimately pays. - It seems so unamerican.

This not a bail-out, it is suppose to be a "loan". We "hope" to be paid back. Pay attention to whom we are actually bailing out, & whom we are now loaning money too. OK

No--McCain does not want to bail-out AIG--& he hasn't flip-flopped.

Isn't it ironic that we're always lectured that we don't have money for universal healthcare, but we always have trillions to bail out wall street companies, and a trillion $ for a war we didn't have to fight in Iraq.

How will the "poor" ever become independent from the "rich" in America ?

And yet by loaning them money the are bailed out. Ironic, isn't it...

Giving someone a loan when they need it so desperately or they will close the doors, that sounds like a bailout to me.

Whether you are Dem or Republican

Remember, there are thousands of good people who are losing their jobs which will add to credit defaults. I know its hard not to get mad because you see the CEO's walking away free and clear with millions but I was a product of a shutdown in Feb from one of the large companies that has recently been bought out and it took me 6 months to find another job. Thats the reality of what happens so dont forget how many little people will be feeling the brunt of these bailouts and shutdowns. I wish they would go after these big wigs with more agression.

"I didn't want to do that. And I don't think anybody I know wanted to do that." Second Statement

"No, I do not believe that the American taxpayer should be on the hook for AIG and I'm glad that the Secretary Paulson has apparently taken the same line." First Statement

Then he expands on the Second statement by saying But there are literally millions of people whose retirement, whose investment, whose insurance were at risk here So I suppose that because he expanded on his second statement thats a flip flop? Even though he prefaced it by saying he did not want to do it? I see, well I fail to see the flip flop here. his position was that the taxpayer should not be on the hook for this, and I don't see by expanding on his second statement of how people could get hurt by AIG's failure that it would change his opinion on taxpayers. So the flip-flop on this one is kind of hard for me to see.

No, its not about flip flops, they both do that, its about not knowing what the fallout would be when he made the original statement.

You know whats really striking to me today more than anything. I really don't see an issue with what McCain said on this one, they both have handlers that provide them with this stuff and proof it everyday i'm sure. The one thing I always laugh at when either one of make a gaff. Obama on the 57 state thing and McCain on the Shia thing was someone actually wrote that in advance. Or lets us hope its not that bad. lol

Then why does the United States Government now own AIG?
