Massachusetts Judge Orders Justina Pelletier To Be Returned Home

So how about sources that aren't right wing nutter sites.

I posted something from the Boston Globe which was pretty fair and balanced.

But sheeeeet, that just doesn't fit in with you "The gummit is coming for my children" narrative you guys like.

Dude, just stop. No matter what ANYONE posts, you will shriek "RIGHTWINGNUTTER!" or "ALLHAILDCF!" I understand you have this bizarre need to defend the indefensible, but it's gone from astounding, to shocking, to just plain pathetic.

If you keep jerking your knee like that, you might blow an ACL.

"Police State Watch" is not a legitimate news source.

My own opinion, these doctors and the DCF had to have seen something pretty fucking disturbing to pull a child out of a home. In fact, usually it's the opposite situation. Something was obviously wrong, and DCF didn't act until the kid was in a body bag.

Only joeblow could refer to the Boston Globe as fair and balanced. And, of course, he is completely ignorant of the scandals surrounding the DCF and its track record of criminal negligence; negligence that recently resulted in the deaths of several children (that we know of). It has gotten so bad that even governor mini-me obama was forced to remove the fatally incompetent head of the DCF despite resolutely defending her for so long.

But out of town nobody joeblow didn't know or care about any of that. He just saw another opportunity to do what he has been programmed to do: mindlessly defend anything and everything that the government does because he wants so badly to belong to the state.

Okay, punkotard, here's the thing. Those deaths were because DCF didn't act when it should have... not the other way around.

And I'll take the reporting of the Boston Globe over "Police State Watch" any day, thanks.

YOU'll take whatever the government tells you to take, and you'll remain bent over with a blissful smile of fulfillment on your face all along. Mao would have loved you, boy. And you probably would have ended up the way so many tens of millions did under the form of government you are not being careful about wishing for.

There is never a shortage of scandals in Chicago; go make an ass of yourself over a topic you might have a prayer of knowing the first thing about.

But here's the thing. Most of those "Scandals", no one cares about. Except the politicians, maybe, trying to score cheap shots at each other.

That said, when I see all the usual suspects on the right going nuts over something, it usually doesn't take much digging to find out they are full of beans.

In other words, you will always uncritically defend anything the government you so gleefully take it up the ass from does. You are unquestionably partisan because you are too stupid to think about anything beyond standing where you've been told to stand. You're a waste.

No, Unko, you are wrong. He is not ignorant. He isn't even stupid, at least about this. He sees, understands, AND APPROVES OF what is happening. He is absolutely pure evil on the level of Stalin.

without wasting too much more time with people who seem to think the GOvernment is hiding under their beds and in their closets, let's get back to this.

Justina Pelletier?s mitochondrial disease: Boston Children?s Hospital suspects medical child abuse.

It’s easy to get angry about this scenario—and there are some troubling things about the way the conflict has been managed—but the doctors at Boston Children’s deserve a defense. First, we’re essentially hearing only one side of the Justina Pelletier story. Neil Swidey and Patricia Wen, the reporters covering the story for the Boston Globe, have done an admirable reporting job, but hospitals can’t say much about their patients. Linda and Lou Pelletier appear to have provided much of Wen and Swidey’s information. Second, the science is complicated. Mitochondrial disease (Justina Pelletier’s original diagnosis) and medical child abuse (the Boston Children’s diagnosis) can look extremely similar. Both can be deadly if not treated properly.

The doctors at Boston Children’s who rejected Justina’s mitochondrial disease diagnosis identified two red flags. First, many physicians attempting to diagnose the disorder look for an accumulation of mitochondria in the cell membranes of skeletal muscles. This finding is often called the “hallmark of mitochondrial disorders.” Media reports suggest that Mark Korson, Pelletier’s doctor at Tufts Medical Center, declined to take a muscle biopsy before diagnosing her with mitochondrial disease. In addition, the doctors at Boston Children’s pointed out that Pelletier’s levels of plasma amino acids and other common blood markers of mitochondrial disease appeared normal.

so in short, you have crazy parents, (the kind that take their greivences to Hate Radio), you have a disease that has no definitive test and the indicative tests weren't even done or came up negative.

Just as Justina Pelletier exhibited some symptoms consistent with mitochondrial disease, her case also has some of the hallmarks of medical child abuse. One of her chief complaints was digestive trouble, the most common symptom among medically abused children. She had gone through extreme surgical procedures, including the placement of a permanent port in her belly to flush her digestive tract. Her parents had engaged in physician shopping, and experts at Boston Children’s felt that Justina’s emotional state improved when her mother left the room.

The doctors at Boston Children’s had few options if they really believed in their diagnosis. Just as the treatment for strep throat is antibiotics, the treatment for medical child abuse is separating a child from her parents. Sending Justina Pelletier home would have represented the height of irresponsibility if their diagnosis was correct. One in 10 children who suffers medical abuse eventually dies at the hands of his or her parent.

Or maybe I just think that a team of doctors, a judge and child abuse specialists might have been right?

Hey, what if they were right?

Oh, wait, that doesn't fit into the government is out to get me narrative.

Dude. Quoting Slate just shows how desperate you are. I'll take the opinions of a Judge over your assertions.

Or, the Massachusetts DCF didn't have the proper medical staff to handle this case? This is bureaucratic incompetence, not parental negligence, no amount of self flagellation you do will change that.

Like I just got finished saying, the Massachusetts Legislature in 2006 suggested that the DCF hire a medical director to handle these cases. It never did. So, the DCF didn't have the proper medical expertise to know when or if a child was being medically abused. Bureaucratic incompetence.

From the Boston Globe:

The battle over Justina’s future was one of a handful of recent cases documented by the Globe that involved Children’s and a disputed diagnosis that led to parents losing custody or being threatened with that extreme step. These conflicts, which typically involved controversial diagnoses on the medical frontier, have exposed the consequences of the ongoing failure of the Massachusetts DCF to upgrade its medical expertise. The agency, many observers have argued, is simply not equipped to properly referee such cases.

More than seven years after recommendations from the Legislature and outside specialists that the child welfare agency hire a physician medical director to provide expertise in complex medical cases, DCF has yet to do that.

A spokeswoman for DCF said the agency does plan to enhance its medical team, which has traditionally consisted of a handful of nurses, by adding a new position called a director of integrated health services. But spokeswoman Cayenne Isaksen acknowledged that position would not have to be filled by a physician. In addition, she said, “the department is in the process of establishing an expert panel of doctors from a variety of disciplines who can provide additional support and consultation in difficult cases.”

If you turn your nose up at this, you're woefully ignorant of the facts.

A judge was the one who pulled that kid out of that home, dumbass...

Dude, Slate is highly respected for its journalism, unlike Glenn Beck.

Of course, you'd need more than your junior high reading comprehension level to get that.

The guy who wrote that article did no screaming, so I can kind of understand why you didn't get his point.

Sure, just read the article from the Boston Globe I just posted. The same judge who pulled her out, also returned her back home.I cannot believe he was dumb enough to believe what the DCF told him in the first place without engaging in a proper investigative process.

And who says I even listen to Glenn Beck? Who do you listen to? Mike Malloy?

Hey, Tampon, from the same article.

In 2011, Connecticut DCF had investigated an allegation of medical neglect made by members of Justina’s medical team but dismissed it a few weeks later. In his March ruling, Johnston had rebuked Connecticut child protection officials for failing to get more involved in overseeing the case, which involved a child in their state.

Well, at least Massachusetts tried.

Hospital spokesman Rob Graham said the parents’ actions prevented that from happening. “Boston Children’s standard of care in complex cases is to hold a summit that includes all the involved disciplines at Boston Children’s and external providers if available in person and by phone,” Graham said. “In this case, that work was underway, but the family escalated the situation making the initial summit impossible. Subsequently, Boston Children’s conducted extensive and ongoing communication and coordination with physicians across the Hospital and with external providers.”

Again, it would be nice if we had, you know, a test for this disease....

Oh, no, wait. Don't want no gummit telling us how to raise our property... er...kids.

I remember when Mike used to be the obligatory liberal host that WLS put on before they realized they didn't have to bother.

I loved his term, "Flying Monkey Right", even though at that time, I was kind of part of it.

The Judge returned her AFTER they had completed counseling and someone explained to them what they were doing wrong. Probably won't help. They'll end up killing this girl in a year. And then they'll blame Boston for not letting her have the full Quack Treatment.

And this, folks, is what "For Profit" medicine looks like.

Those conditions are not mutually exclusive. In fact, they most often occur in some combination.

Yet again, at least the third time:
Before she was kidnapped by BCH, she was a competitive figure skater. A year and a half later, she is a wheelchair-bound cripple and may never walk again.

Only someone as mind-blowingly brainwashed as you would call being treated by Tufts Medical Center "quack treatment".

Joe:

Trying isn't enough. The DCF wasn't even properly equipped to handle the case. Your First Grade reading comprehension, no doubt.

Your unmitigated faith in government is purely disturbing. I would be afraid to let you around children. Soon as you were, you'd place them on the altar of government and say "What is thy bidding, master?"
