I did not know this but these teams are professional and it is now possible for Americans to make a living from playing rugby. There are 9 teams and 2 more joining next year. The US will surely become a bigger player on the international scene with a pro league underpinning development.

The US is currently ranked #12th in the world.

The US will not become dominant in rugby for the same reason we will not become dominant in soccer; not enough people give a shit. American football is faster tougher harder and more exciting than rugby is ever going to be. People like to talk about how tough rugby is, but the toughest rugby player in the world would be turned to paste in an average NFL game.

Xenophobic nonsense. NFL players would have heart attacks if they had to run round for 80 minutes.

You mean “jog around.” For any NFL secondary player that would be called a nice day off.

No idea what the hell you are talking about with “xenophobic.” Almost every American college has a rugby team.

/---/ I've become a big fan of competitive macrame. The drama, the tension, the wild and crazy half times.

You must be terrified of those badass marathon runners.

I doubt rugby will take off in the United Stares, football, basketball, baseball, hockey and auto racing take up most of the resources. Rugby will have a small following but will never make it toa major sport status here in the US.
