Look at this $50 Mauser

Read this quote above a urinal in a titty bar...

Mikhail Kalashnikov, who died in December 2013 at the age of 94, once said he felt personally untroubled by his contribution to bloodshed.

"I sleep well. It's the politicians who are to blame for failing to come to an agreement and resorting to violence," he said in 2007

When you read the book Kalashnikov is considered a Russian national hero. His revolutionary idea was to use a lightweight pistol round in a simple to make, rugged, easily fired weapon. Army establishment around the World laughed at the idea and thought the AK-47 was a joke. Armies wanted high power rifles that could take out a soldier at 1500 yards. Kalashnikov did a ton of research and found almost all battlefield casualties take place within 100-150 yards. A lightweight pistol round was more than enough to do the job. Make it simple, strong, light and very easy to use and maintain.

Kalashnikov was right. Army guys were wrong. And yes, he felt no guilt whatsoever.

Nice condition. I bought an M48 for less than $500 and it wasn't nearly that good of shape.

Few years back, 10 or so M48 were around $100 and Turk mausers cost their model # $38! Carcano were less. Makarovs, TT33, CZ's, SKS, Mosins all under $100. However M39 Finns still held around $300 then. Have a 1944 SAKO built, all matching, paid around $300 in 2006.

"I had to look it up. My buddy's gun had Russian writing on it. Apparently Mauser licensed a 7.62 mm rifle to the Russian Army called the Tokarev, It is a Mauser in all but name. They were standardized around the 7,62 mm round."
Yes the SVT40

7.62x25 Tok is a pistol round, but a bottle neck and will crank 1500fps out a 4 inch barrel. Picture a long 9mm casing, necked to 7.62, wicked round. Caliber was usually CZ52 or Tok TT33 but there were some subguns in that caliber like the PPSH41, MAS38, PPS43.

Now there were some custom rifles chambered in Tok. Even the M1 carbine. May be confused with the Tok rifle in 7.62 however the full desig is 7.62x54R (same as Mosin) Had one, first pic. Tokarev SVT40

Isn't a Tokarev a pistol?

Both.

Tokarev TT33 pistol (called Tok pistol) 7.62x25 bottleneck pistol round.

Tokarev SVT40 rifle (called Tok rifle) 7.62x54r same rifle round as Mosins.

SVT40 Tokarev rifle is NOT a mauser. Mausers are bolt action, SVT is semi auto.

The SVT weren't "made for the Ruskies" In the late30s Germany took over the Czech factory.
