Once successfully elected, the Islamist leader begins systematically getting rid of secularism and putting in religious rule. When the Palestinians held elections, which the west heralded as a democratic step, the Palestinians voted in Hamas leaders and thus what was voted in were supporters of terrorists and thus an anti-west faction. Just because you have a democracy, doesn't mean that the majority voting will elect a pro-secular freedom candidate, especially when it comes to Islam. Muslims will inherently vote for Islam and Sharia when they have the numbers to make changes. Keep that in mind as the number of Islamists continue to climb in the US.
