Let's say the Republicans take the Senate

When a bunch of politicians go through a useless excersize to repeal Obamacare 55 times, who is there to talk to? Maybe if the GOP puts up some people with a brain in their head, and a care about the welfare of the citizens of this nation, we will see some progress. If they continue like ol' Mitch, and see as their one single goal the opposition to anything at all that the President does or proposes, 2016 will be a disaster for the GOP.

Since when have either the pres or the GOP been willing to work together?

When has the President talked to any Republican leaders, let alone any Democrat leaders. If he wants favorable legislation, he needs to deal with them, and he doesn't even try.

You mean to say that he will not see his keystone accomplishment destroyed, you are correct. But try that now, and the rest of the nation will see the GOP as nothing but sore losers.

The fact that ObamaCare is considered his keystone accomplishment is indicative of what an abject failure this man has been.

Oh, you are smarter than that. Our party leaders won't deal with the Pres until we are in lame duck sessions, then we give him what he wants.

ACA is not going way.

Bills that Harry ignores will get put to vote.
Bills will get passed and sent to Obama. He can then veto and chance pissing off the people and insuring a republican presidency.
Or he will sign and things might improve. Like they did under Clinton.

Yeah, this may be as good a guess as we'll get. The GOP would almost certainly pass the bills that Reid has been holding back.

So two questions would remain: How many Obama would sign, and how well he and the Democrats could sell his vetoes.

The last time this country was purring, Clinton was in the White House and the GOP controlled Congress.

Both knew how to play ball. Balance, baby.

.

You can bet that Obama would rather see the country go down the toilet before he'd ever play ball.

IF the republicans grow a brain they will leave that issue behind.

I don't think the current crop of republicans have that in them though. They certainly have not shown it. Should they do as you state, the republicans have a VERY good chance at the presidency in 2016. I rather think that they are going to shine and cry over the next 2 years passing a ton of repeal this or that bills, blocking anything that looks remotely like a Obama agenda and basically getting only political statement bills passed that have zero chance of an Obama signature. On that path, they ASSURE the democrats the presidency. Most likely at least one of the legislative houses as well.

It's the day after the elections (or the run-offs) and the Republicans now hold 51 to 54 Senate seats.

Now what? What would we see? What's the plan? And remember that Obama is still in the White House.

What will their victory mean in tangible terms?

Be specific, please.

.
they would pass a budget that obama would lie about, again, then he would veto it, then executive order tax increases.

aside from that, nothing much

a few cuts in spending, probably, but not enough to stave off the collapse

Nothing.

Republican control of Congress will in essence be meaningless. Congress will continue to be completely gridlocked and dysfunctional whether democrats control the Senate or not.

For some, of course, a gridlocked and dysfunctional Congress is perceived as a 'good thing.'

But the partisan divide and political animosity are far too great, and the republican majority too small, to expect any significant action from Congress, or any action at all.

OK........

Those of you who have claimed that Harry Reid is holding progress in Washington........

Please, without using an internet search, name three of the bills that Reid refuses to bring to the floor and summarize their chief components.

Thanks.

Yup. Clinton was the Prez but the Reps had Congress. They were able to work together and the country purred along.

Since Barry has stated many times the he won and has made no effort to work with the Reps then I doubt anything will get done in his last two years of office.

One can only hope the next POTUS has a lot more on the ball than Barry does.

He certainly knows the stakes for 2016, so my guess is that he'll do the calculus on how he thinks the electorate will react to vetoes and behave accordingly.

As always, this isn't about what's best for America, it's about politics.

.

My guess. the House will continue to send unworkable bills to the Senate, which the Senate Leadership will snarl up because they can't override a filibuster and their "Majority" will involve guys like Lindsey Grahmn, John McCain and Susan Collins. Meanwhile Obama will probably issue a lot of executive orders to get things he never could get past Congress.

The day after the election? Obama signs amnesty legislation he illegally drew up and Harry Reid does nothing, refusing to support impeachment.

Do you think a GOP-controlled Congress would take up impeachment?

Not what you want them to do, what you think they'll do?

And if so, is that a good idea politically?

I can name 55 of them right now.

No but they should if Obama goes around them and creates amnesty legislation to sign. We don't have a king.
