Woe is us. Lot's of school shootings, lots of kids & teachers killed, hundreds more terrorized.

We wring our hands, trade specious accusations, and collectively wonder why "we" can't do anything to prevent this carnage.

But obviously there are things that could be done. Kids could be encouraged to notify "someone" when one of their number talks crazy (and you know what I mean). But of course, the FBI is not large enough and not properly equipped, and is not properly utilized to investigate literally thousands - maybe tens of thousands - of such reports. They wouldn't have time to do anything else.

Each school should have one or more trustworthy individuals, experienced in law enforcement and technology, to whom the students can go confidentially, with some confidence that the matter will be investigated. Such people must have an open link to local Law Enforcement, and have the power to check things like gun registrations with the family of the person of interest, criminal records, psychological records, counselling records, membership records, and so forth. It must be possible for the school investigator and law enforcement to interview the person of interest and ascertain whether there is a real threat or just a messed up kid (95% of the time) mouthing off to get attention. The school investigators must have access to all of social media, and the ability to track down kids who post terroristic threads and thoughts, without worrying about those kids "lawyering up" and bring a shitload of worry on all.

Why can't we do this? Because everyone involved knows that such kids - such "persons of interest" - would immediately get in touch with the ACLU and similarly misguided "advocates" who would create a legal and administrative nightmare for the investigators, the police, the school itself, and probably the school district. Their parents would be calling the local newspapers and television "consumer advocates" and creating a mess of unwanted negative attention of the people WORKING TO AVOID A CATASTROPHE.

You want to know whom to blame? Blame the lawyers and advocates and organizations who are dedicated to protecting our "civil rights" and "privacy" to the extent that the State has lost its power to provide adequate safety, for fear of bullshit legal and "constitutional" challenges, disciplinary actions, firings, and so on.

And most of the "constitutional" basis for this endless and harmful campaign is bullshit, made up by "Progressive" justices on the USSC, pretending to protect us from "Fascists" who want to turn our free country into a "Police State."

This is where the blame lies. It's not with the NRA, Donald Trump, or Republicans.

Open your eyes.

The FBI is certainly capable of dealing with these kinds of issues. They have field offices everywhere. Had the Miami field office been notified of the Cruz meltdown it would never have happened.

Any other suggestion is a cover up for FBI dereliction.

My daughters received death threats from a minority student....nothing was done, not even an interview to determine veracity. That same student continued on harassing other girls with no intervention. Some left the school over this it was so bad. Policy is do nothing...its not that they don't know.

How are the two correlated? Obama sited people “clinging” to guns and religion. Clinging means no ceding. Guns and religion are not the only things people “cling” to. People cling to ....

- abortion across the spectrum
- anti-gun ownership
- anti gay
- “rights” that violate other people’s rights

People cling to extreme levels. How can we solve the problem if we are caught up in zero sum endgames?

Can you cite some examples of when the ACLU interfered with an investigation of an alleged threat by law enforcement of school administrators.?

As usual your making no sense. My guess is there are no examples of the ACLU getting involved in this sort of thing. I willing to bet that the OP just has some vague and half baked case against them, as you apparently do.

I just said everyone needs to cede, including myself. How in God’s name is that a zero sum game? I just said clinging is the problem across the spectrum. If that is interpreted as “give us what we want and only what we want” then we have bigger problems.
