From an undeniably leftist rag (Vox):
  • One study, by UC Davis and Johns Hopkins researchers, found that after California enacted comprehensive background checks, as well as misdemeanor violence prohibitions for guns, the policy changes were not associated with changes in the firearm homicide or suicide rates. (A caveat: It’s possible comprehensive background checks had some effect, but it was just too small to detect in a population-level study.)
  • Another study, from UC Davis, UC Berkeley, and Johns Hopkins researchers, found that after Indiana and Tennessee repealed comprehensive background checks, the repeals were not associated with changes in the firearm homicide or suicide rates. (Again, it’s also possible that there was an effect, but it was simply too small for the study to detect.)
  • A study, by Johns Hopkins researchers, found that comprehensive background checks alone in urban counties were actually associated with an increase in firearm homicides, although the authors cautioned that background checks very likely did not cause the increase so much as have little effect while homicides were already increasing.

Democrats need to think way bigger on guns

So, laws that only affected the law abiding did nothing to stop criminal activity? I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you!!

The whole point of the article is that it’s not comprehensive or universal until the gun show loophole is closed.

And it isn't comprehensive or universal until it is national.

and it's going to be ineffective because criminals dont' give a damn about the law.

The reason we have both an opioid epidemic and a gun homicide epidemic is because the pharmaceutical and gun manufacturing industries have flooded the market with pills and guns. Their business model is driven by stock price rather than putting America First.

There are only so many Americans who need opioids. Yet the drug companies flooded our country with exponentially more pills than are needed. They deliberately did this to increase profits, at the cost of skyrocketing deaths in America.

There are only so many law-abiding Americans who want or need guns. Yet the gun makers flooded our country with exponentially more guns than belonged in the hands of law-abiding Americans. They deliberately did this to increase profits, at the cost of more than ten thousand dead Americans each year.

Trump is fucking whining about a "national crisis" at the border. We have one INSIDE our borders, and the fucker came this close to appointing a drug czar who was thoroughly owned by the drug companies. Fortunately, our free press, which Traitor Trump and people like the person who started this topic HATE, unmasked the motherfucker before the traitor could install him.

What amount of guns would have "belonged" in the hands of law-abiding Americans? How did the "increase" in the amount of guns in the hands of law-abiding cause "more than then thousand dead Americans" every year?

Bullshit, gun manufactures makes products to sell, if the market wasn't there, they wouldn't be making them.

.

The whole point of the article is that it’s not comprehensive or universal until the gun show loophole is closed.
So, if the gun show "loophole" gets closed, murder and suicide rates go down?

.
If it becomes more difficult for criminals to get guns, gun crime rates go down. It’s not hard.

So how do you accomplish that without imposing undue burdens on the law abiding? Remember you can't legally require a criminal to submit to a background check or require them to register a weapon.

and there in lies your problem...……..no amount of legislation will ever make it difficult for a CRIMINAL to get a gun......just like prohibition for alcohol and why they dropped it because it doesn't stop people from getting anything they want bad enough.
gun laws only make it difficult for law abiding citizens.

A background check is NOT an undue burden

Most law abiding citizens don't object.

Most criminals never bother.

Which is why forcing them nationwide is an exercise in futility
