With relief funding for child care providers introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic set to expire at the end of the month, Democratic lawmakers in Congress are proposing major new funding for the sector.

The Childcare Stabilization Act, introduced Wednesday by U.S. Sens. Patty Murray, D-Washington, and Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., in the Senate, and by U.S. House Minority Whip Katherine Clark, D-5th District, in the House of Representatives, would bring $16 billion a year for the next five years in grants to child care programs cover costs.

The funds are intended to replace $24 billion in relief that was passed as part of the American Rescue Plan Act in 2021, which is set to expire on Sept. 30.

So the dems need 80 billion to replace 24 billion....Sounds about right.

I don't know, if you can't afford childcare maybe you should stay home making a pot roast and study-up on contraception.

We need to send the fait money printers to the car crushers.

This is a really good way to curtail abortions. Many women abort because they can't afford to work and pay for child care.

Now saying that it needs paid for. Pay for it Democrats. It's the right thing to do.

The "pro-life" party wants to make it as punishing as possible for people to have children in this country

Wouldn't be grand if they sat those dem congress-critters down and told them.....OK, you want 80 billion for childcare, fine, now what cuts into other spending are you willing to make so it can happen.

Damn near every agency is a dem slush fund now, hell, just the other day the EPA found 5 billion for Tater's "Climate Corps".

Just YET ANOTHER example of sky rocketing costs of whatever the government puts their hands into.
1) "Everyone should own a home... let's subsidize buying a home!" - result: skyrocketing home prices.
2) Everyone should go to college... let's subsidize going to college" - result: skyrocketing tuition.
3) Student housing is a problem... let's subsidize student housing" - result: colleges got into the real estate business and student housing rent skyrocketed"
4) "Childcare is impeding young couples... let's subsidize childcare" - result: childcare costs are skyrocketing, to the point couples are only having one child.

Do it. That would be the right thing to do which in the end is why it doesn't happen.

None of them want to curtail what they hand out to their benefactors.

Yep, I'm helping out putting my great-grandson in a learning daycare and it went up $10.00 this year. $175.00 a week. Worth every penny too. I pay half.

The increase is for all the illegal kids.

It helps to keep the costs to business down. Otherwise they would have to be paid more so their children could be cared for when they are at work.

I'd be OK if someone introduced something that made the employer pick up the tab.

Thus driving up the cost to the end-user of whatever that employer is doing.....Another form of non-legislated taxation.....Great plan there Slick. 😐

You have to pay for that cheap labor somehow in the end.

They aren't just replacing, they are expanding and extending.

And I think childcare is a better place for the money than a billionaire's swiss bank account, don't you?
