Americans Not in Labor Force Exceed 93 Million for First Time 62.7 Labor Force Participation Matches 37-Year Low CNS News

93 million Americans do not work. That is nearly a 1/3 of the TOTAL US population. That is the lowest labor participation rate since 1978. In 1978, there were 10 fold more stay at home mothers than now and Jimmy "Limp Dick" Carter as presidente. Yet labor participation rate was similarly horrendously low.

We are lead to believe by the faux numbers and the librat media that the economy is peachy, yet the driving force for the so-called 5.5% unemployment number is the absolutely frightening labor participation rate.

So 93 million Americans don't work. Obama is made more don't work. If he could only get 100 million more to so-call leave the labor force he would have full employment numbers!

Talk to new grads and you hear, man I got $90K in student loan debt, yet there are no jobs to be had other than low paid unskilled service jobs!

The economy isn't good and no amount of librat propaganda can change the reality on the ground!

Horrendously low???? It was at an all time high under Carter!!!
Of course, since Truman (when it was first calculated) it's been at an all time high under every President except G.W. Bush and Obama.
And I have no idea where that stay home mom number is coming from. I doubt its accuracy.

No thanks to economic policies beginning with Reagan's years.

The economy is doing far better now than the Bush downfall.

Ghook et al are trying to send us back to 2009 in order to make money: the bad guys are playing partisan politics and are losing.

Strange how you ignore all those jobs your beloved GOP outsourced under your failed "free markets" dogma.

I have stated many times we need to do more to protect our manufacturing base! But if you are suggesting setting a tariff on China, then where are we going to get our rare earth elements our economy relies on?

Fact: it costs more to manufacture in Europe, China, Japan and the rest of Asia then it does to manufacture in the US and deliver to US markets. Over-regulation is what is preventing the flood of on-shoring to kick off!

The labor participation rate is lower than any time under Bush, so your comment is fallacy

Assumes facts not in evidence.

Oh, and you failed to defend the feckless GOP's failed "free markets" dogma either. Am I correct in assuming that you are opposed to that plank in the GOP platform?

Not at all. In reality I have a vested interest in over- regulation, because I am a compliance attorney. It's great for my career and job security, but I see everyday it's damaging effects. In a short few years came the new GFE/ HUD rules, then QM/ATR, then appraisal independence, then Biggert- Waters and now the big of the big regs TRID (TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosure rules), which going to set the mortgage industry through a whirl-wind 8/1/15.

Believe it or not, but these regs but a burden on business and have these banks eyeing other markets to expand.

Believe it or not, if you are compliance attorney and truly believe your conclusion, then you are not cut out for your profession.

NAFTA passed under a supporting Clinton regime in his first term before the GOP took congress in the midterms. NAFTA is and was horrible. The Clinton regime torn down the barriers to China and stem rolled their WTO membership. The South Korea agreement was passed by the dimocrats congress and Obama at the helm. CAFTA was passed by Bush and it was a great deal. Check the stats we have trade surplus with every country in CAFTA!

easy enough, make liberal unions, taxes, and deficits illegal to bring back 20 million jobs tomorrow and create upward pressure on wages. Ship 20 million illegals home and create 20 millon more new jobs tomorrow, and even more upward pressure on wages!

TPP represents 40% of global output. If passed it means more free trade and more wealth for everyone.

That's a load of horse shit!

There were 10.4 million stay at home moms in 2012, your BS would make 104 million in 1978. In the 1970s stay at home moms made up 49% of all mothers which would mean there were 212 million moms in the 1970s. Assuming all had only one child and you get a US population of just moms and children totaling a minimum of 424 million in 1978. Need I go on making a fool of you?

Except that NAFTA was always an extremist rightwing dogma. Simply because Clinton was fooled into signing it doesn't alter who owns it and the fall out because of it.

As far as having a surplus with Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic it would only be significant if the opposite were true. They are hardly powerhouse economies that are sucking jobs out of America. The "surplus" probably amounts to chump change.

So blaming Dems for failed GOP fiscal policies is disingenuous. Own your failures and try to learn from them.

And no, "over regulation" has nothing to do with on-shoring jobs. It has everything to do with the greed of the Wall Street Casino Bosses.

Follow Edward Baiamonte's economic theories in America and the world unemployment rate would increase by 10% in two years.

I didn't say it wasn't. It's been going down since 2000. I don't know how you read me as saying it was higher than under bush
