The Ku Klux Klan played an active and enduring role in steering southern white voters away from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party, according to a new study.

The white supremacist group resurged to prominence in the 1960s as a reaction to the civil rights movement, and its violent extremism inflamed racial division and polarized communities for generations, according to the study published by the American Sociological Review.

KKK was founded by Democrats and was a Democrats only Party.

apparently, you missed the very OBVIOUS memo that the Klan switched parties when the Democratic Party went from being the mostly white, very conservative party of the 1850s through the 1950s, to the diverse, Liberal party of the 1960s to the present. Meanwhile, at the same time, the GOP went through a mirror image transformation.

Now, if it is too hard for your brain to comprehend this historical fact, I will forgive you. And then send you back to the clinic.

A kinder, gentler Ku Klux Klan? 'We do not hate anyone,' imperial wizard says

by Alicia W. Stewart, CNN

(CNN) –“All we wanna do is adopt a highway,” said April Chambers, secretary of the North Georgia chapter of the Ku Klux Klan. “We're not doing it for publicity. We're doing it to keep the mountains beautiful. People throwing trash out on the side of the road ... that ain't right."

For many Americans, the Ku Klux Klan has been a symbol for terrorism, racism and evil in America, synonymous with burning crosses, lynchings and hooded men.

Even today, the name evokes vociferous discussion about the rights of a local group to adopt a highway in North Georgia, which was recently denied.

But is the latest effort to adopt a highway an introduction of a new era of a kinder, gentler Klan or merely an effort to gain attention? After more than a century and a half, what is the Ku Klux Klan today?

"We're not racists," Chambers told CNN Monday. "We just want to be with white people. If that's a crime, then I don't know. It's all right to be black and Latino and proud, but you can't be white and proud. I don't understand it."

What a crock of shit. Ann Richards was the governor of Texas from 91 to 95 and Texas was a a dem state for years before that.
What changed is the dem party. They went so far left Southerners bailed on em,nothing more to it than that.

Yeah because the parties NEVER change. I like how republicans think that posting this that means you are going to convince idiots that the parties haven't changed at all yet history shows that they really have.
