Talladega 5-year-old dies after accidental shooting

So here we have another infant "accidentally" shot with a gun that he found in the home.

Police responded to a scene at 7:30 a.m. to find the boy suffering from a single gunshot wound, according to the officials. They sent the child to Citizen's Brookwood/Baptist Medical Center where he was pronounced dead around 8:30 a.m.

On Friday, Busby identified the victim as Michael Swain, Jr. Swain was found to have accidentally shot himself with a handgun he found in the home.

So this isnt gang related or drug related. No criminal activity at all apart from the gross negligence of the parents.

And yet this happens every day.

Are there any laws to protect Michael and the hundreds of other victims ? Are you required by law to keep your guns in a safe place ?

How are kids protected against the stupidity of their parents ?

Now you want to outlaw stupidity?

How about outlawing the stupidity of not making kids wear seatbelts while riding in a car?

the stupidity of driving drunk, while kids are in the car?

the stupidity of allowing kids to go swimming without adult supervision?

or a thousand other ways adults show their stupidity in regards to kids?

I am asking questions in the CDZ in the hope it can be discussed in an adult way.

that's what the CDZ is for.

Cars, drunk drivers, swimming pools, are more dangerous than guns to children.

That's why I brought them up

Perhaps they deserve their own threads ?
This one is about the danger of guns in the home.

From your OP

How are kids protected against the stupidity of their parents ?

That was the question you asked, and the one I responded to

Of course it is.

It's always about taking our guns away.

Guess what: we're going to keep our guns, because when seconds count, the police are minutes away, so we're keeping our guns to shoot intruders. And varmints and other such problems. And that's the name of that tune, so stop dressing up YET ANOTHER anti-gun thread with another fake outrage.

There are some freedoms set in stone in 2018, one is guns and the other is freedom to have abortions. Let's keep some freedom around this benighted country.

It could be about a lot of different things. But you dont seem to think that anything could,or should, be done to stop these kids being shot

We have seven children in our home and also guns. Never had an accident or anything close to one because we are responsible, keep the guns away from them and have taught them gun safety. They all know repercussions will be swift and severe if they mess with any of the guns.

Every time some idiot lets a child do this out of neglect the left whines, wails and moans.

but at least this time the OP didn't try to blame the NRA for it

So you are obviously a responsible adult who ensures the safety of your kids.

But not all kids are that lucky. What could be done to better protect them ?

Should the steps that you take be mandatory ?

You can't legislate it...it's something every parent should do. Unfortunately there are some people that shouldn't be parents

Well in Merry OIde England the govt has REMOVED the parents from involvement in legal or medical decisions about their children.. The barristers are now the nannies... Not certain that's the SOLUTION --- are you??

Less then 500 deaths a year due to accidental firearms shooting out of 320 MILLION people I would say we are pretty safe now.

When would it become a problem for you ? 1000 ? 5000 ?

It happens rather often.

Happens all the time. Sometimes for no good reason at all
