It is my understanding that the 2nd amendment is a right that is limited to law abiding citizens. If you are a felon, murderer, wife beater or have a history of mental illness that right is not afforded to you. Yet the poster you are arguing with (The2ndAmendment) is against background checks, which means that he would allow felons, murderers, wife beaters and the mentally ill to own a firearm. Where do people like that cross the line of themselves no longer being law abiding?

I think the whole take-away (when it comes to Hitler and the gun control debate) is that governments can and DO turn pretty shitty in a heartbeat, and it's not completely whacky or looney to think that one day you may be defending yourself and your family from a gov't that was once sworn to protect you. I'm not saying it's going to happen tomorrow, I'm just saying it's possible.

A: Because there's been literally thousands of examples in history - long ago and VERY recent - of (1) gov'ts spiraling out of control with power, and/or (2) temporary or long term economic collapses, and if either of those happen I want to have the most effective means of defending myself.

Can you imagine perhaps how much more effective it would have been if more than 95% of the Jews hadn't surrendered their arms before that? Maybe it could have at least given the remaining Jews time to leave Germany (for those who didn't' already leave).

The Germans would not have heavily invested into slaughtering tens of thousands Jews who were retreating out of the country/region into Allied Territory.

Here's one thing for sure though, even if we can't tell what would have happened, this video shows they all would have had a much better CHANCE. At the very least, they could die with dignity.

there was no legal right to asylum at the time

besides that they would need jobs

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- The Anti-Defamation League called on conservatives to keep Nazi analogies out of the gun control debate.

"The idea that supporters of gun control are doing something akin to what Hitler’s Germany did to strip citizens of guns in the run-up to the Second World War is historically inaccurate and offensive, especially to Holocaust survivors and their families," Abraham Foxman, ADL's national director, said Thursday in a statement.

The statement cited the proliferation of such arguments among gun control opponents in the wake of calls for greater gun controls after last month's massacre of first graders in Connecticut by a lone gunman.

The Drudge Report headlined the White House's announcement of such proposals with mug shots of Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin and an array of conservative pundits have claimed that the Holocaust would not have been inevitable had Jews been able to bear arms.

The instances in which Jews managed to obtain arms, as they did in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943, were symbolically important but would not have headed off the Nazi machine, the ADL said.

"Gun control did not cause the Holocaust," it said. "Nazism and anti-Semitism did."
