A U.S. government report that hiring improved in July sent stocks sharply higher just after the market opened. The Dow Jones industrial average jumped as many as 171 points but gave up those losses by midmorning. An hour after the opening bell, the Dow was down 7 points.

The market is officially unimpressed with the jobs report right now...

This mornings increase in the Dow might have just been a dead cat bounce.

People started doing the math on the unemployment numbers. We need 250,000 to reduce unemployment, we got 117,000 and the government reported a decrease. Something very very piscatorial there. That may mean we got a huge increase in the numbers throwing in the towel in the job market. That is very bad in the consumer spending futures.

No one disappeared. Population went up 182k, Labor force decreased 193k,not in the labor force increased 375k. It's all in the report.

The reason unemployment numbers decreased is because the labor force decreased...less people are looking for work. That is even worse.

The unemployment rate dipped to 9.1 percent from June's 9.2 percent, but that was because discouraged job-seekers gave up the search for work.

Oh ya. We are booming.

Correct. Government is fighting the recovery by over taxing, over spending, and trying to create jobs by preventing private sector jobs from coming into existence. Let the recession play out. Now is that what you meant to say? Probably not. But I will pretend it is.

Face it, with all the republicans prayers going up for the economy to stay in the dumpster past November 2012, it is difficult to see how the economy will significantly improve. You know the GOP has the only hotline to God, right?
