In every nation on earth, costs for nuclear reactors are spiraling upwards. That has nothing to do with anything in the US. It's a commonality of the nuclear industry everywhere. New reactors, old reactors, they're all still insanely expensive. Even France, with large numbers of government-backed standardized plants, can't build a nuclear plant that isn't a massive money loser.
Yeah, we keep hearing about next-generation plants, or the new miracle Chinese technology just around the corner, and it never materializes. The Chinese can't build a profit-turning nuclear plant either.
It's a matter of money, where to efficiently allocate resources. Nuclear power will always be useful for baseline loads, but renewables and efficiency are the cost-effective path forward now.

On Tuesday, NOAA released its official assessment of December, January, and February’s temperatures across the United States, and the results are striking: Not a single state in the U.S. had a cooler than average winter. (NOAA treats Alaska and Hawaii separately, due to shorter weather data records there—though both states were significantly warmer than normal this winter. Weather records for the contiguous United States go back to 1895.)
NOAA blames the recent warm weather on a record-strength El Niño “and other climate patterns,” most notably, global warming. As a whole, this winter in the lower 48 was about 4.6 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the 20th century average: a sharp contrast to the previous back-to-back frigid polar vortex winters, especially in the Northeast. But that doesn’t mean there was a lack of wintry weather: New York City, for example, had one of its warmest and snowiest winters on record, an odd combination to say the least.

Increased CO2 in our atmosphere merely means there is more nutrition for plant life. More plant life means more oxygen. Humans and all animal life flourishes on oxygen.
That defies common sense. When you burn carbon, attaching an O2 to a C, it makes CO2. That takes O2 out of the air, and decreases oxygen levels. If CO2 goes up by 120ppm in the short term (short enough for geological carbon and oxygen fixing to not come into play), O2 has to drop by 120ppm. Not significant, though, when the oxygen levels started around 200,000 ppm.
Up until about 600 years ago, our plant life was actually starving for CO2. We have only, within the past 600 years, reached levels that are sufficient to sustain vibrant growth in plants and trees. Of course, none of your Socialist propagandist brainwashers are going to tell you this.
That's right, forests and jungles were all in poor health prior to 600 years ago, because plants were so CO2-starved, and only a socialist plot says otherwise.

No Eddy, I'm sorry you don't understand chemistry but stating that plants produce oxygen from carbon dioxide is not stating that oxygen levels are globally increased. Lots of things happen to oxygen. It can bond with hydrogen and make water. It can bond with lots of other things and make lots of other compound elements...probably more than any other element, as a matter of fact. It doesn't always stay oxygen. But increased CO2 causes more robust growth in plant life because that's what plants thrive on... more plants create more oxygen because that is what plants do... they process carbon dioxide and turn it to oxygen.
So... IF you believe the CO2 levels are dangerously TOO high... plant a fucking tree and shut the fuck up! You will have done more with that one single action than all the activist Global Climate Change nonsense that's ever been done.

Whatever are you talking about? There has been no real significant change in the atmospheric CO2 in the last 10,000 years. It was a steady 280 ppm, + or - 10 ppm the whole time. And even when in the depths of the ice age, when it was 180 ppm, there was plentiful vegetation. I'm about as pro-nuke as one can get. However, I recognize reality. The choice is between "cheap" and "safe", and dropping "safe" is not an option. Hence, there is no cheap nuclear power, hence it is a poor choice for energy development, which is why so few nuclear plants are being built.
