It's All Pelosi's Fault

I worked an put myself through college. I then went to work. I built my own house and paid for it. You should try work sometime. It won't kill you.

You do know that good colleges can run 20,000 a year, yes? Care to tell me which jobs a full time college student can get that earn 20,000 a year?

You obviously have no concept of how expensive college is nowadays.

Thats an awesome idea.

So...hmm. Ok, suddenly millions of kids can't pay for college anymore.

Suddenly no businesses can start up because they can't get credit.

Millions of people can't pay for graduate school anymore.

No credit would mean the economy would fail. Its pretty much the stupidest idea ever. And some of us can actually borrow money responsibly.

wonder what people did before there were banks just throwing unlimited money around? work, work, save, work save.. I know this is a foreign concept for many.

Where are you getting this ridiculous notion that people are borrowing 500% of the value of a home? The government isn't buying ALL of the mortgages out there, in fact, it's allowing people, normal people, you and I to re-negotiate our mortgages with the government and get a lower monthly payment.
This decision to not pass this bill today is going to lead to a revised bill that isn't going to be anywhere near as good for our economy. I am a business owner who depends on a holiday shopping crowd. This is going to be one of the worst holiday seasons EVER. Your type of thinking is going to put me out of business.

I don't have a mortgage, I built my house, we bought materials as we had the money and hand built our house. lots of hard work and a lot of time and labor invested but it was worth it, it was paid for when we moved in. Not a fancy house, just a well built 3 bedroom brick house. Snug, cozy.

you honestly mean to tell me you cannot find work to earn 20,000 a year? Hell a waitress can earn that in tips in a year.

They didn't go to college, because it wasn't as important then. Credit is essential for some of us. Its also economical.

For example: Law School costs around 45,000 a year. Add housing and lets say its 55k. 3 years, thats $150k. Tell me how long it would take for you to save $150k to go to law school. A while.

Or:

Take out loans, go to law school, and make 160k first year out. Makes it a lot easier to repay. And financially advantageous for everyone involved. Getting rid of all credit is idiotic.

20,000 in PROFIT, genius. That would be after taxes, after spending for food, housing, other necessities, etc. All of this WHILE going to school full time. No, its not easy to do.

ditch digging pays well, as does cartography. go with the ditches

I'll stick with teaching, which earns me a 50k yearly salary after taxes while I'm attending school full time. And my job is recession-proof. Of course living in the most expensive housing market in the United States means that I'm not saving all of that, or even most of it, but it does help.

But not everyone can be as lucky as me. Most people aren't in the situation I am in.

I heard a high percent of those who could not pay the loans that are in question were illegal aliens..I've heard from 40-50%

confirm/deny?
not true....though some areas like california might have reached about 10% of subprimes...which is still alot....heard some c-span guru speak on it a couple of days ago, a caller said the same as you, and he corrected her with some figures on it....i just happened to be listening!

and where does this person live? if they are working just to pay for school what do they pay their rent with? what do they buy food with? how do they pay for their utilities? how do they get to school?

you statement above is ignorant.

I would love to know where you live that a waitress can earn 20k in tips!...

Why would you think it's a lie? It's what actually happened. Let me guess... The Democrats can do no wrong.

The Democrats can, and do, wrong. However its Republicans who are generally for deregulation, not Democrats. You can cherrypick all you like, but that fact remains.

10% of how much money? 700 Billion? And you think the US Taxpayer should foot that bill for illegals?

I'm pretty stupid but not stupid enough to tell you where I live.

The people who took out the loans weren't the ones who profited.

I'm pretty stupid but not stupid enough to tell you where I live.

Cause someone is going to look up Willow Tree in the yellow pages and find you?

wow...Kids won't be able to go the college....

a whole generation that won't be brainwashed by the socialist, communist, or liberal professors.....

What a wonderful dream...if only...

Republicans aren't for deregulation as much as they used to be after being hijacked by the neoconservatives. Deregulation is so misunderstood. It's an important component of liberty. I thought it funny that when California was experiencing rolling blackouts, the Democrats were saying that it was due to deregulation. In fact, the opposite was true. I guess truth doesn't matter in politics.

A whole generation that won't be able to go to graduate school. No more American doctors, lawyers, engineers, physicists, etc, etc.

What a wonderful dream. Sounds amazing. :cuckoo:

No, actually it was because of deregulation. California had more than enough energy, its just energy companies were fucking it over.

California deregulated its energy market, and prices went up 1000%. Coincidence? Not so much.
