Is this SOP at the IPCC?

I give science unquestioned allegiance. It is the only of mankind's pursuits that uncovers certain truth.
You give the IPCC blind obedience. All the posts linking to corruption and incompetence by its members, and you still insist on defending it.

Cultist.

I haven't seen one post that proves in any way corruption. What I've seen are conspiracy theories aimed at discrediting the biggest obstacle to conservatives imposing what is best for them on the rest of the world. It's probably the world’s oldest and dirtiest political trick.

:lol::lol: That's because you are an unethical political propagandist. Oh yeah did I mention you were intellectually dishonest too?

If you have nothing new, or nothing to add to the science, why do you default to conspiracy theories?

Not conspiracy theories, incompetence.

Let me fully absorb that. You are calling the IPCC incompetent at science. The irony of that is breathtaking.

What's ironic about it? It's a group of people and it's reasonable to consider that some people are incompetent.

Is a person with a degree in Social Policy a scientist in your opinion?

Conservatives are a group of people with an entitlement attitude, a background in dirty politics and an agenda to impose what they ignorantly think is best for them on the rest of the world.

You way overestimate your credibility with intelligent people.

People like PMZ fail to understand that the IPCC is supposed to only be a aggregator of pertinent science that relates to climate science.

However, I can understand his mistake because the lead writers for the various chapters often have papers that are referenced by the IPCC reports but which are not published until after the reports are released. One journal (the name escapes me) had an issue released post-AR4 which had an amazing 80% of its articles quoted. While I appreciate up to the minute reporting I feel that science that is going to be used in such an influential document should be exposed to broad readership first to minimize mistakes.

The IPCC mission:

"The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the leading international body for the assessment of climate change. It was established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 1988 to provide the world with a clear scientific view on the current state of knowledge in climate change and its potential environmental and socio-economic impacts. In the same year, the UN General Assembly endorsed the action by WMO and UNEP in jointly establishing the IPCC."
*
"The IPCC is a scientific body under the auspices of the United Nations (UN). It reviews and assesses the most recent scientific, technical and socio-economic information produced worldwide relevant to the understanding of climate change. It does not conduct any research nor does it monitor climate related data or parameters."
*
"Thousands of scientists from all over the world contribute to the work of the IPCC on a voluntary basis. Review is an essential part of the IPCC process, to ensure an objective and complete assessment of current information. IPCC aims to reflect a range of views and expertise. The Secretariat coordinates all the IPCC work and liaises with Governments. It is supported by WMO and UNEP and hosted at WMO headquarters in Geneva."
*
"The IPCC is an intergovernmental body. It is open to all member countries of the United Nations (UN) and WMO. Currently 195 countries are members of the IPCC. Governments participate in the review process and the plenary Sessions, where main decisions about the IPCC work programme are taken and reports are accepted, adopted and approved. The IPCC Bureau Members, including the Chair, are also elected during the plenary Sessions."
*
"Because of its scientific and intergovernmental nature, the IPCC embodies a unique opportunity to provide rigorous and balanced scientific information to decision makers. By endorsing the IPCC reports, governments acknowledge the authority of their scientific content. The work of the organization is therefore policy-relevant and yet policy-neutral, never policy-prescriptive."

The above from the IPCC website.

Consider the progress of climate science since the IPCC was founded 25 years ago. Consider the input to the political decision making process represented by the four, soon to be five, annual reports. Consider the difficulty of getting all of the countries in the world to agree on anything, much less something as non-intuitive as AGW.

The IPCC will be recorded by history as a milestone scientific and political accomplishment and success and the first international scientific body of its kind.
