Is science the root of all evil?

Part of me says it is a religion, but part of me says it is a severe mental disorder along the lines of liberalism and the AGW cult.

Science has given us the technology to make nuclear weapons, two world wars, concentration camps, pollution, sweatshops, and man made disease.

Seems to be the cause of more death and destruction than anything else, much more so than religion. Ancient people lived simple harmonious lives without science and technology; but just like when Adam ate the Forbidden fruit, they got greedy and weren't content with what they had; instead of relying on God's natural laws, they turned to the devil and used his forbidden knowledge to create all of the hardships that are in the world today.

Abolishing the scientific method and institutions entirely and returning to a primitive lifestyle might therefore be the way to right the wrongs in the world; even religious wars never would have been feasible had science not given them the weapons they used to take lives..

Hari krishna, Hari krishna, Krishna Krishna, Krishna krishna, Hari hari, Hari hari......

Science is not evil. It can be a tool for evil. There are many tools that can be used for evil. Science itself is no more evil than are guns or drugs or asphalt roads.
Like it or though science has the bigger body count than religion. And even theocracies haven't killed as many as communist regimes.
If science is such an evildoer, what are you doing using the internet? Enjoying some of Satan's fruits? :D

He needs to log off and throw out his evil computer immediately!

Slight disagreement.

First and foremost, God created the Universe and all the natural laws within it.

Science is the study of those natural laws. That's all science does is study God's creation. Since God is beyond the natural Universe aka super-natural, science cannot and will not study what is beyond the natural universe.

While science, by its very limits of studying natural phenomena, cannot study God, I think anyone who studies God needs to also understand the basics of God's creation.

Introduction to the Scientific Method
Introduction to the Scientific Method

The scientific method is the process by which scientists, collectively and over time, endeavor to construct an accurate (that is, reliable, consistent and non-arbitrary) representation of the world.

Recognizing that personal and cultural beliefs influence both our perceptions and our interpretations of natural phenomena, we aim through the use of standard procedures and criteria to minimize those influences when developing a theory. As a famous scientist once said, "Smart people (like smart lawyers) can come up with very good explanations for mistaken points of view." In summary, the scientific method attempts to minimize the influence of bias or prejudice in the experimenter when testing an hypothesis or a theory.
Science is fine but is to blame for more destruction in the world than religion; I find it amusing how some progressive atheists talk about how man-made global warming will destroy the planet, yet still are more threatened by something a religious person believes in their own privacy.

But you don't keep it "private." You and people like you spew your malarkey all over the place.

What an absurd statement. 'Science', like 'capitalism' and 'guns' is not, of itself, good or bad; it just is. The use, the intention, is all.
Even religion could be good, if it lifted mankind and expanded awareness.

This fails as a post hoc fallacy.

False comparison fallacy.

You know, science needs theology to keep it within bounds, and theology needs science to help spread it's message.

I think Einstein said it best: "Theology without Science is crippled, and Science without Theology is blind", meaning that both are needed for the advancement of the human race.

Besides.............there are several scientists out there who once they saw what they had created made some very important contributions to the human race. Alfred Nobel (the inventor of dynamite), invented it because he wanted to make explosives for the miners safer than what they had (TNT and nitro), by making the explosive stable and safe and easy to transport. But, when he saw what he'd created and knew it could be used for bad things (like war), he started up the Nobel Peace Prize.

And then there's Oppenheimer, who warned everyone that nuclear energy was very dangerous, as well as said we'd just let the genie out of the bottle.

Lots of scientists are humane people who understand what their inventions can do. The dangerous ones (and yes, they should be limited to what they can do), are the ones that invent just to see if what they've envisioned is possible without considering the consequences of what they've done.

No. Science isn't evil. Besides...............one of the things that God wants us to do is to be able to understand how the Earth works so that we can be better stewards of the planet (like we were instructed to do in Genesis).

Well, I think that you problem is becoming clear to me. Apparently, your problem is not with conservative atheists, only progressive atheists....

Disagreed. Mankind is responsible for using tools of destruction. Medicine can be used to heal or harm. It depends upon the user. The same goes for driving a car, flying a plane, nuclear energy or even building a house. Whether those actions are for good or evil depends upon the user. The person doing them.

Science Doesn't Make Any Sense!

We can't understand how people fall for science. Do you know where scientists say that "ice" comes from? They say that when water gets cold, it huddles together for warmth. They say this "molecular body heat" stops the water from shaking so it becomes still. Can you believe how stupid secular scientists are? God's Word offers another explanation – the true explanation. "Jesus wants us all to be Christlike - - and what better way than to be able to walk on water? Praise His name!"

How long will Christians be subjected to ridiculous notions about where rain comes from, what causes hurricanes (Would you believe that scientists blame them on a man called Nino living in Peru? It's outrageous! But they really believe it!), why there are floods and droughts, what causes sinkholes, where oil comes from (scientists will tell you oil and coal come from fern trees – try getting either substance from trees!), how food suddenly appears each day in the aisles of grocery stores, how gasoline makes cars "go," how houses get warm during the winter, how light comes out of little glass bulbs (or even how those glass bulbs are made!)."

As Christians, we don't have silly stories or some bizarre mythology to explain the Truth. We know that Jesus is up in heaven, living on a cloud, sitting on a golden throne. If He rustles His silver robes, the Sahara gets a sand storm. If He flicks a drop of perspiration off His furrowed brow, those little folks in Tokyo find themselves under 10 feet of water. Secular scientists go crazy about a few little factories belching smoke, saying it causes acid rain and holes in the erogenous zone. But I have news for you, if the Lord just lets out just one tiny pooty-poot, it is like 4,000 Mount St. Helen's blowing a dark hole straight through the sky.

Science Means Satan In Latin

Is the belief in a Creator/GOD really silly or is the belief in the formation of life without one silly? You tell me.

In the Garden of Eden man had all he needed, when he sought out the tree of knowledge he brought destruction to the world; therefore science seems to only serve a purpose of undoing the destruction which mankind caused to begin with; if he'd never opened that pandora's box he'd have been better off without it entirely.

Worship of science is essentially worship of Satan; much science today is simply the "witchcraft" of ancient times, an attempt to modify and warp natural order under the belief that man can surpass God.

Haven't you been paying attention? The love of money is the root of all evil. Science is simply one more tool used in its pursuit.

Here's my two cents. Many would call me crazy for believing that some "great sky fairy" created everything, while ignoring the absurdity that they believe that NOTHING created it. Does anyone else see the logical disconnect there?
