What use is marriage in a society that does not penalize people for being sexually active? Now that DNA can designate a Daddy and most women have to work anyway......does it still have value for young people?

No the fags where the last nail in the coffin ..they finally get the right to marry and just as the whole institution was imploding on its self... marriage will most likely become something only fags and Christians do in near future...

You are way off. First our family structure is based on the eurocentric model of three generations in one household. It has little to do with christianity as many of the different religions follow this model.

Gays will not ruin the institution, they will not harm or bolster the institution. They will merely follow human instinct. Marraige failures havent changed much at all. If anything it will improve since many children are born out of wedlock.

It is dying out according to a Pew Research Center Report. I think it is because of long-term commitment expectations combined with other issues. :eusa_whistle:

(Nov. 18) -- Nearly four in 10 Americans think marriage is becoming obsolete, according to a new survey that reveals changing attitudes on gay marriage, unwed couples and the definition of what a family is.

The study, conducted by social scientists at the Pew Research Center in coordination with Time magazine, also shows that Americans' attitudes toward family issues differ by race, age and social class. It's based on interviews with 2,691 adults reached on their cell or land-line phones during the first three weeks of October. Pew researchers also analyzed demographic and economic data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Marriage is a joke, I have seen so many marriages fail in this country I lost count. If you are happily married good for you but it is not for everyone. More than half the marriages in this country end up in divorce and the numbers would probably be more if people could afford to leave their spouse, alot of people are broke and cannot afford to leave and end the marriage.

Ditto that statement. Not everyone feels a need to "couple" and especially for the long haul.

I just think marriage is an out dated institution, it worked well in the 1800s and and the early parts of the 21st century but this country has moved past that, with the American lifestyle the way it is with so many opportunities and all the new people that you meet it is unrealistic to ask someone, a man or a woman, to spend the rest of their lives with just one person. It is unrealistic and the facts speak for themselves with the high divorce rates.
