Is forgiveness of sins the root of all evil?

Came to mind the other day watching some doc on Biography Channel about witches. One of them mentioned how in Wicca any bad spell comes back to the caster 3 times. Then the witch said, "in Wicca we're resonsible for our actions." Hence the question. Are religions which forgive sins unintentionally laying the foundation for rejection of personal responsiblity and creating more evil than it prevents? IUf you can be forgiven for accidentally killing someone drunk driving for instance you're more inclined to drinka nd drive than if you have no hope of forgiveness and just burn that may factor into your decision tree.

For crying out loud, being forgiven for sins does not mean you are issued a free pass for more sins card. People who seek forgiveness do so because they are sorry for sinning and strive to not sin again.

Wiccan spells whereby the individual witch casting the spell claims sole responsiblity for his or her actions is a far cry from someone asking God to forgive them and give them grace to not sin again.

You do see that don't you?

Was under the impression regular confessors who do it every week confess the same sins each time. If truly repentent, shouldn't the sinning stop or at least greatly reduce?

No. Quite the opposite. Not many can live up to the standards imposed by religions. If there was no provision for forgiveness many people would simply turn to a life of sin with no remorse. The fact that forgiveness exists means they can still hope for salvation if they get their act together.

Isn't that nothing more than self-deception then? Think about the end of such a person's life. If it's the nature of Man to sin, then isn't it likely a sinner will sin then die before the next trip to confess and be absolved? Not everyone has time or presence of mind to call a priest for their last confession. Aren't most just headed down with their last outstanding sins unforgiven?

Not really unless god does not exist. You dont have to have a priest to pray for forgiveness. You can utter a quick prayer to be forgiven and supposedly you will be if you mean it.

Let's take your drunk driver as an example. Suppose he is truly sorry he got drunk and hurt someone. He confesses his sin and is forgiven. The next time he is tempted to drink, he isn't transformed into another person via forgiveness. He still has free will.

You pray for grace to strengthen you, God gives it to you but that doesn't mean God is your puppet master. You have to choose whether you give in to that same sin again or not.

Most human beings are not perfect. They turn to God, who is perfect, for strength. It is possible to be truly repentant while still not quite able to resist habitual sin every time you are tempted. You know, you keep trying, practice makes perfect.

Or you could cast a spell. It's your choice.

get drunk and brawl on Friday and Saturday, then go to church on sunday to be forgive, but do the same thing the next week.

The only reason forgiveness of wrongdoing should continue is if that person does not commit the same wrongdoing.

Yes. Some people do that. They are not fully ready to change.

I wonder how many people proud of their godless lifestyle are free of error.

Under the impression godless types are much less sinful since they do believe they're responsible and can't so easily hit the 'Restart' button.

You seem to be very willing to go under impressions as long as it leaves God out. Good luck with that.

The concept of "sin" is so childish!
It's an ancient/ignorant idea to define "bad" behavior and use that attribution to influence human social behaviors with reinforcement from an imaginary supernatural father, or God".

In those days, 95% of men (99% women) were illiterate/uneducated, so it was easy to fool them to manipulate the masses.
There's no excuse for that nowadays.
