Zone1 Is communiusm a US obsession ?

It is. The only important aspect is the primacy of democracy. That's where socialists go off the rails. You see it all the time in their arguments. Government control of anything and everything is fine with them, as long as it's democratic.

The disingenuous nature (perhaps rather the uneducated nature) of the cookie-cutter terms of controversy they historically tend to offer up as a benchmark for their argument is where people kind of fall into their trap and argue their terms rather than the actual relevant terms.

Don't ever let em control the terms of controversy. And never give em the keys to your fort either. It equates to inviting a vampire through your window.

Ive lost count of the times that I have been called a commie on this forum.

Im not a communist and never have been. Im probably a socialist but that bears no relation to communism.

I also see dems described as " Commies" but struggle to make the connection\ Im terms of political views the Dem party is hardly even left leaning. In Uk terms it is far to the right of our Labour party and probably closer to the cameron tories, before the brexit nutters took it over.

The GOP is far more to the right than our tory party today. They havee extreme positions on capital punishment,, womens health and guns taht would not fly over here. In fact they would be the kiss of death in the UK.

But the Dems drink at the same trough as the GOP and are definitely not commies. In fact it is difficult to see any credible left wing entity in the US.

Is it a throwback to the Macarthy era ? Reds under the beds and all that ? Or is it just a catch all insult made by people who are not politically literate ?

Its a word I never hear in this country.
Where are you on the political compass ?

Just with right wingers…they can’t think of anything else to call you sometimes so they revert to it

Communism has two phases.

The first phase is socialism.

Socialism is the phase between Keynesianism and communism.

And, of course, Keynesianism is designed to fail over the course of time.

That's what the so-called ''great reset'' is all about now. The transition is at our doorstep and the Keynesians are just about to the point where they're running out of road to kick the can down, naturally. So they're gonna be passing the baton over to the commies sooner than later. The country is observably being pushed toward the socialism phase now, it seems, given the predictable, prescribed failure of former.

The second phase being classless society. Here the discussion would move toward the whole from each according to his ability and to each according to his needs line. I suppose it's easy to figure out who decides need. Right? lol.

Dictatorship of the proletariat and whatnot...
Can you name anywhere that this scenario has happened ?

But you have to step back, so to speak, for a broader view of the course of events over the timeline of our nation, back as far as when we wupped up on you Red Coats. Well...or so we thought. So just a little over 200 years.

It's been a process of continuing transition to doom...

The badge of office of the lictors ( local police ), were the axe handles, facia, that had a ritual where they were bundled together to show strength in unity.
The fascia was not just a metaphor, but also a weapon used to beat or murder the poor majority, if they dissented or wanted any rights.
The vast majority of the population of Rome were slaves.
It was the single most corrupt, evil, and unjust government that ever existed.
You can tell how corrupt they had become, if their idea of amusing entertainment was to watch people being murdered in the circus.
In many ways you are describing communist Russia, China, Cambodia, and many other states.
You need to study the long history of the Roman Empire, since "corrupt, evil, and unjust" was in the later stages/centuries. As for the "ever existed", see my preceding sentence for better examples of that.

The problem is that 300 years ago anyone could just go to the frontier and have freedom.
With all the land now being claimed to be privately owned, no one can do that any more.
And cottage industries no longer can exist to any degree, because mass production of expensive factories can undersell hand made stuff.
So the problem is those with enough capital to be able to fund a factory, now have a monopoly on the means of production that you need in order to survive.
Which then essentially can be economic slavery.
So to stop that, we need something to counter this monopoly on the necessary life resources.
It can be unions, socialization, etc.
But there has to be a counter to the obvious abuses that pure capitalism always leads to.
I made my way OK. Capitalism in this country has not been pure, in my lifetime, but I favor capitalism as the driving force and want to see it continue.

And yours is result of Left Wing programming.
You over look the tens of millions killed by communist regimes for not complying with their authoritarian socialist tyranny. Gulags, re-education, killing fields, etc.
There you go again. We are tkjing about socialism. It isnt communism.
You need to be able to distinguish between tthe two.
Socialism has clean hands.

I lived thru McCarthy he was off his rocker. A man of ill repute.

He was a New Dealer first; when that didn't get him votes he switched to raving about commies. Ironically, he was corresponding with a German lawyer who represented Germans in the Nuremberg trials who was later discovered to be a Soviet double agent.

My personal opinion was he himself was out to discredit real anticommunists same as Fred Koch was and his funding of 'Libertarians' are doing today. For those who don't know Fred Koch got rich from developing Joseph Stalin's oil industry and refineries. The he comes home and is suddenly 'all anti-commie n stuff'.

Somehow the conspiritards never seem to acknowledge any of this in their bizarre intellectual contortions and theories. Kind of odd, really, so maybe they themselves are commie tools and are too stupid to realize that. lol

Socialism has clean hands.

that's because it has never existed, like 'free markets' and other ideological rubbish.

Cleanliness has nothing to do with it. Despite the delusion of "democracy", socialism centralizes too much power in too few hands. And it just isn't necessary.

The development of socialism parallels theocracy in my view. Theocracy developed as governments became jealous of the power held by religious institutions and tried to co-opt that power for themselves. Now they're jealous of the power held by private wealth, and they want that too. It took us hundreds of years to finally figure out that giving government control of religion was a really bad idea. Now we're learning the same lessons about giving government control of the economy. How long will it take this time?
