Then why don't we have a balanced budget amendment being sent to the states for ratification? The GOP wanted one. But they compromised and gave up on that.

Why are there no real cuts in spending next year? The GOP wanted a lot. But they compromised and next year's budget will call for hundreds of billions more spending than we spent this year. It was so bad, in fact, that they slipped a 'deemed as passed' in the debt ceiling raise bill so that it won't make it into the public eye later in the year. It is really embarrassing. It isn't what the GOP asked for, but they compromised and let it go.

Why is there no temporary debt ceiling increase with a second round projected for later if needed? That's what the GOP wanted but they compromised and didn't get it. Instead, the legislation gave Obama a blank check to raise the debt ceiling again at any time he chooses. And that's going to be pretty damn quick since they've already spent almost all of the most recent increase.

Why is the national debt projected to rise another 7+ trillion in the next 10 years, using Congress's numbers which are usually about 50% of reality, instead of flattening out and being projected to retreat? The GOP wanted to start reversing the National Debt but they compromised with the result of the first time ever downgrade of our national credit rating and a negative outlook meaning we can expect another to be coming.

Why was no policy passed re taxes and regulation to give American businesses confidence in what to expect so they can dare risk venture capital again and start hiring? That's what the GOP wanted but they compromised and didn't get it.

Why are Obamacare and Cap & Trade still looming out there, either of which will impose the largest tax increase on Americans they have ever seen? The GOP wanted them reversed and tabled indefinitely but they compromised and those things were never touched.

Why isn't medicare, medicaid, and social security reform being addressed. The GOP wanted reform of all three but they compromised and no entitlements anywhere were touched.

The Democrats pretend they gave up stuff when in fact they gave up nothing. And you can believe they are snickering and glad handing each other behind closed doors.

The GOP didn't compromise? They compromised so much that they have speeded up our headlong rush over the bankruptcy cliff. They wimped out in the face of media opinion.

And the Democrats expect to have sufficient time to pad their own multi-million dollar retirement packages some more before it all falls apart so they don't care.

We have compromised ourselves into the mess we're in. The only ones who didn't compromise were the staunch Tea Partiers.

I suggest we elect a whole lot more people who will not compromise in 2012.

Of course, about a quarter of that money already goes to the federal government for federal income. So make that 18 days.

Another 227,000 people earned $1 million or more in 2009.

Millionaires averaged taxes of 24.4% of their income — up from 23.1% in 2008.

They, too, did not earn enough money to come anywhere close to covering the annual deficits that are $1.5 trillion a year.​

Individual tax collections totaled $1,175,422,000,000 in 2009 — or 15.4% of all income.

Doubling federal income taxes for everyone would still leave us $400 billion or so shy of balancing the budget.​
