Believe it or not, it's still profitable. It's just too dangerous for the customers and the employees.

Oakland has some real shithole areas. Not exactly the safest area. I watched a video, the guy walking through town, many stores boarded up including banks.

When we lived in northern cali, we'd go there now and then to get doll supplies. It was always a risk. One place had a high link fence just for their customers and advised us to use it rather than park on the street. Many buildings and even homes had bars on the windows. Some gas stations required you to leave your license at the cashier before you could get your gas.

It stunk too.

The only safe area in Oakland is the Oakland hills where homes can fetch several million dollars to keep these riff raffs out.
