should we restrict our legal immigrants to about 250,000 per year instead of the current 1 million....?

We have more than 50 million immigrants (legal and illegal) and their U.S.-born children (under 18) in the United States and some 25 million out of work which shows we can't absorb the ones we already have.

So no, immigration should be based on jobless number, no admittances until the jobless rate falls say below 4%, the moment it goes back up past 4% the doors close again.

This would be fair to the American workers which should be our primary concern but will also be fair to those that wish to migrate here ensuring them they will be needed and there will be jobs available.

It would also be the best for America as this funneling affect will provide the best chance to allow in only those who really want be here, want to be American and want to contribute to the nation.

That's not going to happen, and if you thought about it instead of just wallowing in your own fear and weakness you'd readily see why it is in no way practical or desirable.

I agree 100% socio. I makes no sense to give work permits to illegal aliens when there are no jobs for them.
And why is unkotare still here?

The sizeable amounts of unemployment benefits being improperly paid to illegal aliens represents an unwarranted drain on State trust funds at a time when the issue of Trust Fund solvency is particularly critical. Accordingly, all SESAs need to take action to implement procedures for preventing and detesting payments of benefits to illegal aliens.

Black Leaders Plan DC Jobs March to Protest Illegal Alien Amnesty

Many studies have shown that black Americans are disproportionately harmed by mass immigration and amnesty. Most policy makers who favor the legalization of nearly 11 million aliens fail to acknowledge that decades of high immigration levels has caused unemployment to rise significantly, most particularly among black Americans.

None of the Gang of Eight recognize the harm amnesty will do to employment. They, especially Graham only associate amnesty to 2016. Sadly pathetic for a leader.

It has absolutely nothing to do with fear and weakness and everything to do with putting the welfare America and American's first and foremost, it is as practical and fair as it gets and should be desirable to all Americans.

Unless of course you put the welfare of other about your country and fellow citizens.

If that is the case why would you chose the welfare of others over your country and fellow countrymen?

Unkotare does it because there is nothing behind his opinions but hot air, and because his usual response to a good argument is an insult.

Stopping all LEGAL immigration (were such a thing a practical consideration in any case) would NOT strengthen America or serve the interests of Americans, including those on welfare. The fact that you cannot see something so obvious is how I know you are motivated by fear and weakness.

Well you sure as hell wouldn't know, since you've never presented a good argument.

You have verified what I posted.

we're not talking about stopping all LEGAL immigration but about 3/4 of it...down to 250,000...

we could also be more selective...when did we vote to become Mexico...?

Some people here are.

Even that simply doesn't work if you just stop to think about it for a second. Somebody's been going on about tying it to the unemployment rate. Completely, ridiculously impractical. Why does this issue seem to prevent some people from thinking rationally?
