Maria said, “No” and the two began to argue. Jose had brought a rifle to possibly take the girl by force. He aimed the rifle at Maria Saucedo’s chest at point blank range and pulled the trigger killing her. The daughter was witness to the murder of her mother among other persons who were at the home.

Some individuals who were at the home managed to wrestle the rifle away from Jose Zarate and he fled on foot. When he was arrested he was found at his home.
