Humans are selfish.
When someone do something he did it for himself.
What happens if that something is religious interpretation?
Same thing.
Religious interpretation always favor religious leaders. Not the majority of their followers.
That's especially true when politics get involved. In non secular countries, polticians often have a weapon that can help certain religious leaders. Censorship.
Most religious leaders want followers. The easiest way to do it is to get politicians declaring their competitors to be heretic.
It's also not far from imagination that most corrupt politicians are the one most able to pay religious leaders that promote their interests.
So it's not surprising then, that most religious doctrines favors interests of corrupt officials.
You can see that most muslim countries have higher corruption rate.
The muslims are mad. They are very mad. You too will be mad if people keep taking your money.
Who are they mad too? Their corrupt officials? Their own religions? Again and again, fraudsters, thieves, and terrorists use islamic religions to gain support, justify, and to trick people to give them more power.
Most muslims are not mad at those evil people. Most North Korean aren't mad at Kim Jong Un.
Why?
For them to get mad, somebody must tell them the problem.
What happens if somebody tell them, dude, people are using your religion to fuck you up, steal your money, and trick you. You are being fucked over by your own religious leaders. They are well paid by your corrupt governments.
What will happen?
The person that tell that will be jailed. The religious leaders that have their interests hurt will declare that insulting islam.
Islam is a religion. It is whatever people believe. What many muslims believe in is what their ulama says.
The interest of islam are simply the interests of their ulamas and whoever pay those ulamas. The same works in all religions and all ideologies in general.
It's not toward the best interest of many ulama to embrace secularism. The more secular the country the less influential they are. It's not toward the interests of religious leaders to embrace freedom. It's also not toward their interests to reduce corruption.
People can use religions to further their corruption and nobody would mind. Someone trying to warn muslims about what's really going on and of course every body mad. No. Regular muslims are not mad, at least not at first. Their leaders are. And those leaders pretty much control the heart of many muslims.
Those ulamas that are profited by corruption will simply say anything that challenge their operation insulting islam.
And that's what most things many consider "insulting islam" truly is. It's those insulting or threatening interests of islamic religious leaders.
If you draw Muhamad's cartoon. If you burn quran. You may be helping muslims. You help freeing them from their evil manipulative leaders. One day those muslims too may embrace capitalism, democracy, common sense, rationality, and free market economy too like any normal people.
What about if you do something moderate. What about if someone tell muslims that they are being lied to by using religions? There is nothing insulting about it right? None of us are super honest guys. All of us lie to pretend to be more friendly. And in many countries, corruption is indeed rampant. People do use religions to further their corrupt agenda.
Most muslims are not hurt by those statement. Most muslims are benefited. Now that they are aware of some ways people are using their strange beliefs to hurt their interests then their leaders cannot lie to them anymore.
However, that kind of statement hurt interest of religious leaders. If people know they can be lied to by using religions people will distrust their ulamas. That would lessen influence and political capital of those ulamas.
