CDZ If our politicians and bureaucrats can't operate the VA...how can they handle 320 million patients?

This is a question I keep asking....the Veteran's Administration is a nightmare.....it is run by the very same politicians and bureaucrats who created the VA as a medical system for a tiny number of Americans...specifically to handle their needs as a group outside of all other medical systems....in order to ensure that the Vets got good medical care...

And it is horrible....and Vets are dying on fake waiting lists....

The same politicians who are running this horrible system...exempt themselves from it.....and now say they want to run healthcare for all 320 million Americans....and they will also be exempt from that system.....

Tell us....how does this make any sense?

I was asking that question even before Obama was elected. Of course the progressives didn't like that.

If we couldn't even take care of our vets ten years ago what makes progressives think the government provide healthcare for a whole nation?

How strange, that veterans would choose to go with the VA even though magical private insurance exists.

Do you want to pay vets what private contractors make for the same job?

If so then I'm sure the vets would more than willingly pay for their own health care.

How about we make it so all the pay a veteran receives is counted as their base pay and make it retroactive?

I'll gladly take double if not more what I make in pension for the hazardous duty pay, separation pay, comrats pay, housing pay, etc,... that I received in the service, that didn't count towards my pension, because it isn't part of my base pay.

Duly noted.

Most of 'em can't afford private health insurance. Ever think of that?
Yes. That's why the VA's health coverage and the ACA were created.

The VA's health coverage was created long before the ACA was even dreamed up.

Veteran's health care was created for those who served their country.

Not simply because they happened to be born and/or live in the United States.

If you want to give health care to people just because they happen to be born here then all veterans should be given the golden parachute plan that Congressmen/women receive. In other words I go in with a problem and it's taken care 1st Class and I don't pay a dime out of my pocket.

It is worth noting that the VA is a massive expenditure that requires 300 million paying into it to take care of one million people.

Try it with 100 percent of the people paying, rather than the 0.3 percent, are using it there are going to be some very big issues

I know several vets who use VA exclusively, and they like it fine; some live here in Texas, a couple live in Kentucky, and one lives in Tennessee. The Kentucky fellows have to drive to Nashville for the big stuff, one had throat cancer a few years back and recently had to have a kidney removed for a spot that also turned out to be cancer. They are all doing fine, and so is the cancer patient. The Kentucky guys don't like having to drive to Nashville, but they don't have to often, and they get reimbursed for the driving, more than it costs them to get there and back. If the VA is 'lousy' it sounds like a regional thing, kind of like postal service in Chicago sucks while it's excellent here. That's what Congressmen are for mostly, constituent services, it's their day job, so maybe it's just the locals that suck and don't care so the Congressman's staff doesn't have to give a crap either and ignores oversight.

Obama and progressives?

The VA has had the very same problems since before Vietnam.

Quit trying so desperately to blame Obama. Especially since he tried to improve it AND cut veteran homelessness and joblessness by almost half.

IMO, what needs to be done is issue one card to ALL vets that allows them to be seen and treated, free of charge, for life, by any doctor, any clinic, any hospital.

They were were willing to put their lives on hold and at times, on the line. We owe them that.

And yet those politicians won't do that.....and amazingly this is something we both agree on.....they should get those cards....but again, those polticians won't do that....and yet people like you want those same politicians and burueacrats, who can't run the VA to run healthcare for all of us......how does that make sense?

Show me where I laid the blame for inadequate health care for vets at Obama's feet.

My point was that we as a nation couldn't even provide adequate health care for our vets even prior to Obamacare.

If that's the case what makes anyone think that we as a nation can do it for the whole nation.

Now quit attempting to rethink what I posted.

IMO, what needs to be done is issue one card to ALL vets that allows them to be seen and treated, free of charge, for life, by any doctor, any clinic, any hospital.

The magic part is when the elected officials take care of the vets. Obama declined. Hope Trump moves forward with progressive policies, and takes care of the kids.

I hear you. America sucks. Our government is incompetent and could never land an Army in France if need be or deliver the mail.

;)

So, the reason for my love of Obamacare is well stated. At least it admits we have had a socialist healthcare system since, well, healthcare was worth paying for. Agree?

So speaking of mail...

All I need the government to do is set some guidelines for insurance companies and force my friends to pay SOMETHING for their own health insurance. I am not asking some bankruptcy king like Donald Trump to run hospitals or anything beyond his ability. Just set guidelines for insurance companies, tweak it every couple years and make sure my neighbors pay SOMETHING for insurance since my neighbors sure do run to the ER and expect to get treated before paying.

What right wingers never seem to get or want to admit is the 'private sector' will always shoot itself in the foot and make such 'reforms' as ObamaCare politically popular via its own greed and arrogant mis-management. Insurance companies set themselves up with all these little mini-monopolies by state, to kill competition among themselves and making it impossible to buy insurance across state lines, and then HMO's came along and killed off any competition left over.

As for medical research and the rest, the public pays for most of it, usually the most expensive parts, trains the doctors and nurses, etc., etc, so yes, the public has a claim on receiving health care. The right wingers will just have to live with that.

They can't create a monopoly without politicians......the government, not the private sector is constricting the insurance market....and you want these same poltiicians to run healthcare for the entire country...how smart is that?

I see you can't bring yourself to admit the insurance companies are behind it. This is typical of ideologies being blind to anything that doesn't fit into the narratives. How smart is that?

The Insurance companies didn't pass the laws creating the in state monopolies..did they.......the politicians did...the same politicians who are currently run the VA and who want to control the health care for all of us......How smart is that? You think they will be more virtuous when you have no choice but to have government run healthcare?
