Iran is what France would have been like if Robespierre managed to remain in power and continue the terror.

The Iranian Revolution, and then the cover of the Iran-Iraq war allowed the Iranian regime to murder tens of thousands of social democrats, atheists/agnostics, intellectuals, religious minorities, political opponents, and political dissidents.

The blood letting might be less than what it used to be, but 2009's 'election' showed how the Islamic Republic is just as brutal and repressive as at it's inception - and that trying to reform through the market system failed.

I don't agree that the sanctions are the best way to deal with Iran, however acting like they aren't an Islamic theocracy and are a normal country is foolhardy at best.

I met one 100 year old lady , never talked to her about her religion . She was rich and bristled at any mention of being Iranian , said that she was Persian . Like I said , hundred year old rich lady , nice and polite but that's about all I know .
